At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

Biologic is Dahon's component and accessory arm, and they're currently busy growing their range of commuter friendly offerings. This Vacuum flask is designed to sit in a bottle cage and be operable with one hand, so you can enjoy your coffee on the way to work.

The flask is a two-part affair with a stainless double-skinned vacuum container topped with a plastic lid with a sip spout. Sorry, SipSpout™. Opening and closing the spout is achieved by pressing the big clicky button on the lid. Fill it up with piping hot coffee and the flask performs about as well as you'd expect a stainless flask to; you'll get a good few hours of grace before everything gets a bit tepid. It's a snug fit in most bottle cages we tried, though its weight when full means it's a bit unruly in the lighter Carbon offerings.

All in all it does everything it's asked to without fuss. The only minor niggle is that the spout is a bit of a faff to clean and won't allow you to enjoy your chunky vegetable soup unless you stop and unscrew the lid. But as a way of transporting hot (or cold) beverages by bike it's a tidy solution. Good for commuting, also good for those freezing winter training rides where you *really* need a coffee an hour in...

Verdict

If you want to take a hot drink on your bike, this flask will do the job just fine.

I bought one of these and the click mechanism for opening/closing gummed up within a week... Had it replaced but the second one did the same.
Shoddy quality..... Avoid

I ordered from the US ThinkBiologic site.

So far the Fedex tracking goes like this:

WU KU HSIANG Taiwan
to
TA YUAN HSIANG Taiwan
to
ANGELES CITY Philippines
to
GUANGZHOU China
to
SHANGHAI
to
ALMATY Kazakhstan
to
KOELN Germany
and now in PARIS..

Each morning we have an office sweep to guess where it's at. 3

Hi all,

Agreed not supplied into the UK through Zyro as yet....I am working on it, but in the interim can be sourced through the www.thinkbiologic.com website

Biologic is a separate accessory brand (spin off from Dahon):

"We're a collection of artists, engineers, programmers and product designers with a passion for developing innovative products. And we love to cycle. We're scattered around the world in places like Austin, Texas; Humboldt, California; Turku, Finland; Hawkhurst, Kent; Stuttgart, Germany; and Taipei, Taiwan. This means we're working on cool bike gear around the clock and we're influenced by the riding conditions in every corner of the globe, all year round. Our mission is to get more people cycling for everyday transport by developing gear that makes cycling safer, more comfortable, and more convenient."

I think I'm to blame for the confusion; I thought it had come from Zyro when in fact I must have picked it up at Eurobike.

Anyhow, you should deffo bring it in next year Zyro. and apologies for the mix-up 1

I spoke to Zyro: this won't be coming as part of the 2011 unfortunately 2
Apparently they may consider it for 2012...

Oops. Sorry for being so useless! Thank you very much for the link Tony. I too cannot see it on the site but will give them a call.

I've found that a seatpost bottle cage mount can instead be mounted pointing forwards, on the stem. If you have butterfly / trekking bars, this puts your insulated mug right where you want it!

(in other words - my town bike has a cupholder).

Zyro are the UK distributors James - there's a link on the top of the review. They supplied the flask, but can't see it on the Dahon/Biologic page on their site… although that doesn't mean they don't stock it

Who are the UK distributors? I searched but could not find the UK site, only the US one for $30 plus shipping...
