Triple Olympic gold medallist Bradley Wiggins has had his achievements recognised with a listing in the 2011 edition of Who’s Who, according to a report in the Daily Mirror.
The Team Sky rider, who also finished fourth in the 2009 Tour de France is joined in making his debut in the book that lists Britain’s great and good by two men who will be helping spearhead Team GB’s push for Paralympic success at London 2012.
They are blind swimmer Christopher Holmes, winner of nine Paralympic gold medals and now director of Paralympic Integration for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, and Phil Lane, the British Paralympic Association’s chief executive.
The book, in its 163rd annual edition, has entries for more than 33,000 people "whose achievements are notable in today’s society", say the publishers.
"The uniquely autobiographical entries convey an enlightening and often amusing snapshot of the lives of those of enduring interest from all walks of life,” they add.
"All those listed have demonstrated lasting significance. An entry in Who’s Who is for life."
The Who’s Who website quotes The Wall Street Journal as saying: “What is it that really puts the stamp of eminence on a modern British life? Two things count today: having an entry in Who’s Who and being asked to choose your eight favourite records on BBC’s Desert Island Discs.”
We don’t know whether Wiggins is on Kirtsy Young’s list of prospective guests, but given his love of all things mod, we’re pretty sure it would be The Who rather than Who’s Who that would make his shortlist.
