Power Meters....

While perusing a different Cycling Website I came across a article for IQ² (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1468298434/cycling-power-meter-at-a...).

Has anyone here taken a risk with backing/buying them?

Secondly, left and right power meters (in general not just the IQ² ones), can you get away with sticking the left one on Bike A and the right one on Bike B?

Thirdly, most other PM's I've seen have been Left only or L+R. Is there a particular reason why there seems to be a lack of just Right sided PMs?

Just looking for something simple and easy to keep an eye on the improving (hopefully) fitness for me and SWMBO

It looks like part of the thinking behind these is that they will be easily transferred from one bike to another so there shouldn't be a need to "split a pair".  It'll be a bit of a faff, sure.

The whole 16mm bit didn't occur to me, that may be the deal breaker there.

Hi Jim,

I saw this power meter mentioned on GCN. To reduce the Q factor they’re also looking to manufacture custom Ti spindles for Shimano pedals to bring the Q factor back to 0mm.

Also, note the Q factor on these is 16mm.. that's a very large width addition..  I think it's significant when I move my pedals out by 3mm, I'd be a bit nervous about 16mm additioanl width on the pedal.

DCRainmaker guesses that it will come to market around spring next year, if it does and at that pricing, it'll drive down all the existing PM's quickly to new levels. Which is good for us. I'll probably even get a PM at £200.. ideally a nice discreet stages or 4iii one 1

I've backed quite a few KickStarters and one thing I've learned is that electronic devices seem to be the hardest projects to manage. My policy now is to wait for them to come to market as it's not worth a 25% discount when there's only a 5-10% chance of it being successfully delivered.

(I mainly use Kickstarter for boardgames now as making some shaped, printed cardboard is a lot easier and most of them actually deliver - excepting  "The Doom That Came to Atlantic City" though).

Looks interesting, but be wary of kickstarters with something this complex. With any crowd funding expect to lose your money and get nothing, if they produce thats a bonus.
