Day Dreaming

Avatar

Lying in bed enjoying those few minutes after the alarm has gone off but before actually getting up, right arm dangling off the edge, scruffling the top of the cats head while she's marthering for food.

Thinking about the ride for the day.

I have to drop something off in the centre of town a few miles away, so that's the chance for a different first climb which will make a nice change. From there I can head up that way, which I haven't done in ages, and because I have to pedal back home via the centre of town again to stuff rear pockets with well-earned sausages for supper I mentally plan a big lollipop route; round there, which is the other way to usual, up that bit, which will hurt nicely, swoop down what is usually the long draggy climb, and I get to come over the big bastard hill and recklessly try to trip the speed-camera on the way back down into the city.
Excellent.

Hop out of bed with a purpose.

It's the best part of the day.

Jo Burt has spent the majority of his life riding bikes, drawing bikes and writing about bikes. When he's not scribbling pictures for the whole gamut of cycling media he writes words about them for road.cc and when he's not doing either of those he's pedaling. Then in whatever spare minutes there are in between he's agonizing over getting his socks, cycling cap and bar-tape to coordinate just so. And is quietly disappointed that yours don't He rides and races road bikes a bit, cyclo-cross bikes a lot and mountainbikes a fair bit too. Would rather be up a mountain.

...ride, but how to start off is always the bit that confuses me, once that descision is made the rest of the route pretty much falls into place.

I've not done a longish ride in my local area for a while, all my 60 mile and above rides have been in Wales this year, so a nice local 80 mile loop is planned. But do I go out via Streatley Hill and have that evil little climb as my first climb within 4 miles of leaving home but giving quick and picturesque access to a nice South Downs loop. Maybe out via Henley and a hilly route out to West Wycombe, but I have to go down that road that I got hit by a car last summer, and although not really injured that much, I get a bit of a feeling of strees when planning it into a ride, so tend to often avoid it now...

I reckon it's the HellFire cave loop for me tomorrow, can't wait....
