Police seek witnesses to Blackpool hit and run which leaves pensioner cyclist in serious condition

62-year-old female cyclist left in road in callous hit-and-run collision

Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in Blackpool in which a woman suffered serious injuries when a car cut across her bike.

The 62-year-old cyclist was riding along Breck Road when she was overtaken by a light blue hatchback, which then turned sharply in front of her at the junction with Moorland Road.

The driver failed to stop at the collision and police are also looking for another car’s passengers, having overtaken the woman cyclist a few moments before, at around noon on Wednesday.

The woman was taken to Royal Preston Hospital, where she was in a serious condition.

Sgt Rob Gomery, of the Road Policing Unit, told the Blackpool Gazette: “This incident has left a cyclist with a serious injury and I am keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened to come forward.

“I would also appeal to the driver of the car involved to get I touch with us so that we can establish exactly what has happened.”

Anyone with information should contact 101.
