Jonny Bellis back home as he eyes return to the road

Team Saxo Bank rider hopes to compete in World Championships or Commonwealth Games

Jonny Bellis has left hospital and returned home to the Isle of Man as he continues his recovery from the scooter accident near the British Cycling Academy in Italy last September that resulted in him being placed in an induced coma for four weeks due to serious head injuries.

Now, the 21-year-old British rider, who is signed to Team Saxo Bank, is planning to get back out on the road in the next few days as he plans a return to competition in the coming months, with he aim of taking part in either the Commonwealth Games or the World Championships at the end of the season.

Bellis told Manx Radio: “I’ve been doing a lot of gym and runs and everything and I’d be on the gym bike every day, up to an hour, doing a lot of intervals and hard efforts to get the heart rate up,” adding that after spending such a long time in the hospital bed, it was “nice to get a sweat on.”

He continued: “I just need to get back into it as usual, do it every day, and then probably next week I’ll be back on the road.”
