Good value tubular tyres??

Hi...

Sooooooooooo.......

I'm sick of the 50 quid tub replacement cycling around London. 2 last week was tough to take!!!

Has anyone come across a decent (cheapish) tubular tyre that's reasonably puncture resistant?

Cheers.

I've only ever used continental stinky glue on May tubs, I do condense their 200 step process though!

I guess a stitch wouldve saved at least 9 of them

Fair enough - I'll try a repair job when my race tubs go........not for the cheap ones.

It's good to hear some of you making a stand against the fascists at the tyre manufacturers who spend a fortune convincing people not to buy tubulars rather then the, easier to make, clinchers.

I find it odd that someone will spend ages extolling the virtues of steel, despite its weight, and then state that they prefer the 'convenience' of clinchers any day.

Tubulars with a bit of sealant wins every time.

Now, as to your question: my bike shop runs a racing team and I picked up a bunch of barely used and unused tubs for a tenner each. I then topped up with a couple of brand new bargains on ebay.

Failing that, Vittoria Rallys seem to do the job pretty well.

I'd like any views on tub tape. I have recently used Tufo and it's a dream to fit and centre the tyre but blinking expensive at about £6.50 per tyre. Jantex, my usual poison, drives me mad in a blur of ripped backing paper but it's cheaper. What else do you use?

Ah bet those ones for a tenna are pretty decent too!!

I just use velox double sided tape! Never has an issue.

Pump up......leave for a few hours, deflate......press the tyre by rolling it on the floor, then pump up & hit the tarmac. Think I'm gonna go with the rally ones from my LBS in red to match my prince of spain bike 21

I will try that latex that someone recommended tho.

Cheers

£13.50 at Ribble, the first hit on google shopping. I ride all year in and around London on Corsa tubs, I think I've had 2 flats this year. Fixed in under a minute with Tufo sealant. Rallys should hold up better than Corsas anyway.

The Vittoria Rally is the best of the cheapo tubs, use caffe latex inside them.

I use them all year round, punctures are rare and the latex is a permanent fix.

In my experience the continental giro is to be avoided at all costs.

Cheers - I'll do that for sure!

Conti giro = forget it

Rally's can be found for £13.. Just how cheap do you want tyres to be? Never fails to amaze me when people scrimp on tyres, the only things that actually connect you to the ground. Seems like exactly the parts you'd want to be of the best quality possible.

I've got proper race tubs......I have to cycle through London from east to west that's all & London roads are a killer for flats.

Where have you seen rally tubs for 13? That's a decent price.

Cheers,

Matty.

I'll get the obvious out of the way - for training/commuting etc why not cheap wheels and clinchers?

Planet-x do tubs from £20, what are you putting them through?

Well I have commute wheels but I want to get out to Richmond park on the navigator carbons but can't afford 50 quid a pop. Also my ksyriums ssc's need a new hub 20

I had Vittoria rally before on some cosmics - was wondering if there happened to be others about at a similar price. I can pick them up for 18 quid a tyre.

Cheers - I will check out the Planet X ones.......I like their kit.
