Street Velodrome finals in London tomorrow – and you can ride on the day

Ride the same pop-up venue that Olympic and Commonwealth champions will take to later in the day

Exchange Square at Broadgate in the City of London will tomorrow host the finals of the 2014 Street Velodrome series – and beforehand, there’s a chance to ride the pop-up velodrome.

The public will be able register on the day to ride the boards between 11am and 5pm ahead of the finals, which bring together qualifiers from previous rounds at venues including Stevenage, Harewood House near Leeds, Stockton-on-Tees and Paisley.

They will be joined by the two fastest riders at Broadgate from earlier on in the day, as well as two of Scotland’s top track cyclists.

Those are Olympic gold medallist Craig Maclean, winner of two gold medals at Glasgow 2014 as tandem pilot to Neil Fachie, and Ross Edgar, who partnered MacLean and Sir Chris Hoy to Commonwealth Games team sprint gold at Melbourne in 2006.

Full details of the event can be found on the Street Velodrome website. It is due to be televised on Channel 4 in the autumn, and the following video gives you an idea of what to expect.

Tried this in Ealing a few weeks ago. Fell off twice, quite spectacularly. I had just downed a bottle of wine with lunch after running a 10K race though so I think it was justified.
