anyone know how to carve data out of strava ?
Having been carved up by an overtaking then left hooking driver at high speed and the minicab firm who has now acknowledged there driver's presence and GPS tracking data, does anyone out there know how to carve out a section of a strata ride showing time and position on a recorded ride ?
I ask because the scum bag minicab firm who present themselves as socially responsible have declined to do anything about it until presented with incontrovertible evidence. I fully intend to do that via the police.
Any pointers gratefully received.

No - my original expectation of sweet FA was spot on. I got an automated receipt, followed up then radio silence.
Police inaction is a serious issue that is only ever addressed with camera evidence as far as I can tell.

To be honest with you, I expect the outcome to be the square root of sweet fa. I did however engage very nicely with the offending company over twitter and they acknowledged the reg, the incident but told me to jog on when it came to taking my complaint seriously. Anyway, most insurance companies do have more than a basic mastery of Google....
Curious to see if the police act on an XML file. Given the stories we hear of police disregarding obvious GoPro footage as evidence, I'd be very surprised if a police force will act on the data. It's extremely easy to doctor the GPX files a Garmin outputs too, it's not really intended as in incontrovertible record.
I have handed it all in now with little expectation of it being taken seriously so let's see - I didn't break the law getting the Kom so it should be irrelevant.
I suspect the only faint satisfaction I will get is that some my have seen the mask drop for this "eco friendly" company and the reg plate is out there.
Also maybe flag the segment (or get your friend to) so no KOM or leaderboard is available?

I can extract it from a strava segment but unfortunately I hold the KoM on it so no doubt that will be used against me....
If you export the tcx/gpx it is time stamped, have a look in notepad.

Leave the data in original format. The police are paid to look at all of it and they will determine if the information presented to any legal teams need to be altered.
When providing a statement to the police simply make sure that you detail when the incident happened within the data collection. They can then fast track to that time period.

The only reason for chopping it is to cut out the other 10 miles of data and focus on the 0.5 miles of the incident. My feeling is that attention spans are short and readily lose interest if there is too much information. When cut down to 1 mile it is very obvious I had to slam on the brakes from 22mph to 0 which is clearly not natural on the relevant section of the road. Over 11 miles it is a bit less obvious
I would be inclined to think that you should leave the file as it is. If you alter the data, a smart solicitor would ask "so which other parts of the data did you alter?" and suddenly your evidence is invalid. You could expand the privacy zone in order to crop off a larger part of the beginning/end. Is there a particular reason why you don't want them to see the rest of the ride activity?

I am thankfully unharmed as I instinctively knew the minicab driver was a tosser (high revs, attempting to overtake me in primary and on an inappropriate section of the road approaching a left turn junction) and was able to drop the anchor and swerve.
I contacted the minicab firm with a reg plate time and description of the incident and invited them to look into it. They basically said piss off and take it to the police, so I have, along with their instructions and hopefully the gps data is of some use.
You should be able to prove this without altering your data. Strava shows the time at which you begun your ride, click on analysis, set the slide bar thing at the bottom of the screen to time and add on the minutes to where the crash occurred.
Good luck with your claim. Similar happened to me a few months ago and i claimed about £750 for damage to my front wheel, repairs to my bike, cracked iphone screen, three days rail card to work and got away with claiming for one day off work on the grounds that although i took it off sick and didn't lose a holiday, i had to make up for time over the weekend. All went on a new bike, lovely jubbly! If you want a quick resolution, make sure your claim is lower than the companies excess, other wise it could take over a year to settle.
