First impressions of the BMC team machine

Wow! Just got the BMC Team Machine SLR01 with mechanical dura ace and its truly stunning! Except for the dura ace mechanical gears, I wished I'd gone electronic considering how good the frame is, it's a shame not to put the very best components on it. I suppose I've been a bit spoilt coming from ultegra di2 getting used to that doing all the work, but this mechanical gearing is so scrapey and difficult to operate, really quite loud drivetrain noise as well, had this explained in the shop and shown the Teflon type plate thing in the inside of the derailier cage which is designed to scrape the chain on the 3 granny type gears.

Really happy with the semi compact gearing 52/36, heard of other people complaining about the new dura ace mechanical being noisy and trying various things, changing cassette, all kinds of different lubes to reduce noise. I'm sure it'll get tweaked and sorted out eventually but it's VERY rough sounding 2

mechanical 11 sp Dura Ace shifts beautifully and quietly on my bike. I suspect it needs professional tuning, maybe try different mechanic?

You'll fall in love all over again once it's running as it should!

I have mech Ultegra and my husband has Ultegra Di2's on his Paris. My gears are just as quiet as his although I do have to trim the front derailleur sometimes when switching to the bigger ring if I'm in a lower gear in the rear derailleur but not the smaller ring. Agree that it should shift smoothly and quickly and each gear should pop into place right away. If not, your mechanic/the shop you bought it from should be taking a look at it. Could be something simple like just needing to tighten your cables which albeit with Di2's you don't really need to do but if working properly, Shimano mech should be near silent.

Congrats on choosing your bike.

Did you have to do much trimming of the front derailier? Seemed like that was all I was doing with this mechanical, in the small ring it was so noisy, ie granny gears climbing mountains, also middle of the cassette, it's not for me anyway I've used ultegra di2 for too long now, maybe it just needed another tune up but I really hated it.

Think you need to get someone to have a look at your Dura-Ace groupset Tony, there's no way it should be noisy and clunky. I've tested that same BMC you have, and ridden many bikes with the latest Dura-Ace mechanical groupset, and it's nothing but quiet, smooth and very slick. I actually prefer it to Di2

I must say I do like BMC.

Big fan of Gilbert too!

I like the outlook of the owner, at least from the articles I've read.

Enjoy the bike Tony.

It climbs ok I suppose no hassle, I've been really impressed with it building up speed on the flat it's very addictive, feels pedal assisted somehow? handling through corners and descending is very smooth and fluid, it's a very special bike I'm just not happy with dura ace mechanical seems very low margin for error, maybe due to 11 speed or weight saving measures not sure, brakes are incredible, loads of feel and modulation.
