Your thoughts on the Sportful hot pack jacket

I am eyeing up a Sportful hot pack 5 jacket as a present from my better half. I know the 5 has only just been released but has anyone got the 4 version of the jacket? If so what are your thoughts?

I spotted them in the sale in Evans cycles in Manchester today at £45. Might be worth a look on line to see if they will match the deal. If not then pbk were the cheapest when i bought mine (£50)

I've to the jacket Nd the gilet , both great. If you run hot you can get sweaty if climbing but then you just stuff it away. I got it cheap on PBK about a Year ago. Protects me against showers not downpours

I like mine although it's not been properly tested by rain I find it breathable enough.

To be contrary on sizing, I had to go up a size to medium as I found the small too tight around shoulders and arm pits. This was despite owning other Sportful tops in a small and getting on with them well. The jacket bizarrely appeared to be sized smaller than the jersey I was trying to get underneath it.

I've just bought the 4 in day glo yellow. Haven'tfound myself cycling in conditiones that have warranted proper use yet but it has come in handy for the odd cafe stop and just after when you feel the chill.

Having said that, for the small fee I bought it for I am delighted with the product. It's super light weight, doesn't feel too fragile and you don't really boil up in it either like my gore tex jacket. But it is a hard shell jacket after all so big efforts in mild weather will result in sweat no matter what. It looks good too. My only regret is paying too much attention to online advice telling me to go a size up. It's European sizes and designed for a fairly close fit, but unless your riding in minus 10 and putting an effort in, you won't be wearing that many layers underneath (2max in my case), so go with your normal size unless you want a bit of flap.

I've got the 4. Paid £35 of PBK. I've found it performs pretty much as described and reviewed. Water comes through if it's pouring down and you get pretty sweaty if you're riding on the limit for long but for getting you home when it turns wet it's decent.
