Nilox's new HD camera might have a foolish name but you'd not be a fool to get one. If you're looking for a high quality camera for more than just the commute, this is certainly one to consider.

The Veho Muvi HD10 is a full HD camera with a waterproof case, an LCD screen and a remote control. It's overkill for recording the daily commute but a really versatile option if you like filming your riding, or other outdoor activities.

First things first: you're bound to want to know how it stacks up against the GoPro Hero HD, so here's a quick rundown. The image quality isn't quite as good, but there's not a great deal in it, and the Muvi comes with more stuff and it's cheaper. There.

The GoPro HD Hero might have been superseded by an even more sophisticated sibling but remains a superb multi sports camera. It's great for capturing a favourite ride, touring in exotic locations or more serious campaigning or documentary work thanks to high spec and superb build quality.

Opening the box, there are several instruction booklets, USB, AV connectors and various mount adaptors - I stuck with the standard elasticated neoprene head mount, since it latches on to road, mountain bike and even skate lids.

On opening the ATC5K's box, I was a little disappointed about the camera. The earlier ATC3K I owned looked phallic, so I was expecting Oregon Scientific to have overhauled the appearance of this model. As they have attached a 1.5in screen it now looks like a reversed torch, and is both bigger and heavier.

The Drift HD170 is quite a special helmet camera. As the letters HD imply it will record at a resolution of 1080p, as well as in 720p and WVGA modes. Plus it will take 5 mega pixel photos. It’s pretty big – opening the battery compartment is like opening the wardrobe into Narnia – but in this case big is indeed better.

Chilli Technologies' Action Cam 2 arrived in a lovely metal box and peering through the windowed lid of the metal box filled me with excitement. It looked shiny, small and most importantly, it looked waterproof (well, bar the metal body potentially rusting).

Smaller than a box of matches but offering good quality video and even half-decent sound, the Veho Muvi is a great option for point-of-view (POV) riding vids and keeping track of SMIDSY drivers on your commute. The mounting options could be better, and unlike some other, bigger cameras it isn't waterproof, but if it's all about size for you then this is about as small as it gets.
