Accidents
Thanks to Fellow Cyclists - NO Thanks to 4WD Driver
Well, I suppose it had to happen eventually - 3 years commuting in London before an actual accident. Constitution Hill this morning (8 March 2011). 4WD towing an enormous JAGUAR trailer, no doubt containing one such car or maybe big cat, of course - decides to do a U-TURN - yes, a u-turn ON Constitution Hill. Having assumed it was pulling out to overtake another vehicle, I moved out, only for it to u-turn in the road.
cycle safety
My wife had an off from her bike this afternoon on the way home. She was shocked, bruised and a bit scraped but otherwise unhurt.
A woman stepped out from in front of the stopped bus my wife was overtaking and the woman looked the wrong way, despite the fact a stream of cyclists had already come past and my wife was at the rear of these other riders.
Crashes cost the economy
The UK Government’s annual report on the number of road deaths and injuries shows that in Britain in 2009 2,222 people were killed while, according to police statistics, 24,690 were seriously injured. However, the real figure is estimated to be closer to 80,000 when data from other sources are taken into account.
