Mavic wheel upgrade - entry level bike
I'm a bit of noob (both to the forum and to road cycling) so go easy on me.
I ride a 2010 Giant Defy 3 as my general road, also now my part time commuting bike and am doing my first sportive next month.
FS Reynolds Solitude Wheelset
All-round performance road wheels.
Used sparsely for one season. Good condition apart from one slightly loose spoke on rear (may need a new nipple).
Retail at £350 on CRC. £150 posted. david@brynconwy.org.uk
New Wheels Reviews Please!
Rode my first Sportive on Saturday, well I say 'rode' the truth is i had to push the last four miles as my hub gave out, prior to that I had 2 spokes come through the rim. The wheels were the standard one fitted to the bike when I bought it Easton EA30's I think. Needless to say I need new hoops, but as ever there is no easy answer so was looking for some real people reviews.
Which rims??
Have a budget for a new wheelset for racing and also training daily (replacing the wheels which came with my CAAD 8 TIA which have been thoroughly destroyed my north london's best potholes
) , around £250 but could push up to £300. Thinking of building a set with 105 or ultegra hubs but I'm not too sure about the rims - any ideas?
OR.. scrap the building and get fulcrum racing 5's or fulcrum quattro's???
HELP! Wheel building advice needed
Hello,
I have recently had to replace my rear hub, and having now put everything back together and on the bike, it doesn't feel right. There is much to much friction, as if the brake is always on whenever I am peddling.
Is this normal? Do the bearings just need time to bed in and adjust themselves to run smoothly or is there something wrong with the wheel... Having never rebuilt a entire wheel before I have nothing to compare it to, and the old hub was so old it just ran and ran forever.
Any help is much appreciated,
C
Help! Advice needed on new rear wheel
Hello,
My rear wheel on my road bike has developed a nasty looking crack, necessitating a new purchase. The guy at Evans (only bike shop open today near me) suggested I get a Mavic http://www.evanscycles.com/products/mavic/2012-aksium-rear-wheel-ec03331 as it would suit my needs. I rode 3500km last year, 90% of which was commuting on potholey roads. I'll probably end up stumping up for the Mavic but wondered if anyone has any advice on a good, cheap(ish) wheel for commuting. Speediness it not a major consideration and can be sacrificed for sturdiness.
WTD: Cheap rear wheel for turbo and 9spd cassette
Thinking about the bad weather that we're bound to be getting soon, I'm looking for a spare wheel for use on the turbo (so I can minimise tyre changing faff)
Anyone got a rear wheel they'd be up for selling cheap? shimano/sram freehub, just needs to be in good enough nick to use on a trainer.
For the same reason if anyone has a spare 9spd shimano/sram cassette they'd be willing to part with I'd be interested, not fussed about gearing.
Cheers!

Wheel Upgrade for Chris Boardman 2010 Team Carbon
I currently have the standard Ritchey Pro DS that came with my Boardman Team Carbon. I am thinking about upgrading my wheels to perhaps the Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL's.
Is it worth upgrading? If so is this the best upgrade? They cost around £760.
Cheers!
Wheelset £400 or less - what to go for?
Advice or general thoughts please.
Looking for a good all-round wheelset for up to £400, but preferably less.
They're to go on a pretty lightweight build, so I'd like to keep shaving off grams if possible. I'm about 70kg so shouldn't have too many problems with lighter and more delicate wheels.
I've been pondering a few wheels:
Campagnolo Zonda
Mavic Krysium Elite (a smidge over budget but oh so tempting)
Fulcrum Racing 3
Shimano Ultegra 6700
I've got Pro-Lite Bracchianos on my other bike, so they're out for this one.
