Eurobike 2012: Schwalbe launch Ultremo ZX tubeless tyres

The return of the road tubeless tyre. Is this their year?

Hutchinson Intensive Road Tubeless tyres

Price:
£56.99

Hutchinson Intensive Road tubeless tyres are excellent off-season tyres, offering a good ride and decent puncture resistance.

Tubeless tyres have been around in the mountain bike world for a few years, but are still new territory for road bikes. Hutchinson is one of several manufacturers adopting the new technology, with tubeless-specific options including the lightweight Atom and the mid-weight Fusion. Recently added to the collection is the Intensive, a heavier tyre designed for rough roads in both wet and dry conditions.

Fulcrum wheels are available for all types of road cycling, with the Racing 3s about mid-way along the range, aimed at training, sportive or entry-level racing duties. The '2-Way Fit' version is designed for tubeless tyres; they're called '2-Way Fit' because you can also run them with normal clinchers and inner tubes.

Tubeless? Anyone Tried It?

Hi. I've just having some wheels built using Stan's rims and am trying to decide whether to go tubeless or not. I like the idea of improved puncture resistance and ride quality, but not the potential faff if you do have a major puncture or blowout in the middle of a big ride. Has anyone on here tried tubeless and if so how practical is it?

Tubeless on 50mm Aero Wheels

I've got a pair of 50mm deep carbon clincher wheels on order, and am currently running a tubeless setup on my 'ordinary' 24mm wheels. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of converting a set of 50mm deep section wheels to tubeless? The standard tubeless valves will be too short, so I'd need a longer valve or an extender, and am concerned that I couldn't get a good seal with an extender as they don't seem to have threads to put a locking nut on the extension. Any thoughts/experience appreciated.

Cheers
Steve

Road Tubeless Conversions

Hi all,
Just a quick post on this topic. I recently decided to try tubeless tires on the strength of good reviews on Hutchinson's Fusion 3s (and out of curiosity). I don't have tubeless compatible wheels so I had to convert.

Road.cc had a good piece on this but I could find little else online about what sounded like a daunting prospect - so I decided to write about the process as a little how to. You can read about it here: http://theinquisition.eu/wordpress/2010/06/road-tubeless/

Anyway, I hope this will help if you are curious about what it takes to do. Its actually quite easy.

Hutchinson Fusion 2 tubeless 700x23c tyre

Price:
£39.99

Tubeless MTB tyres have been around for a while and while they're still niche there's plenty of people who swear by them. I suspect road tubeless will go the same way: the hassle of fitting them will put many people off but those who do try these Fusion 2 tubeless tyres will be rewarded with excellent feel and low rolling resistance.

Road tubeless tyres: my first experience of fitting them

Hutchison very kindly sent us a set of their Fusion 2 tubeless tyres, complete with all the gubbins that you need to convert your wheels and get rolling without your inner tubes: special rim tape, valves and latex sealant. So yours truly was chosen as the guinea pig, and I set to work attempting to fit them.
