Training

Training

The spring 2011 is what I belive is a turning stone in my life: I got bit by the bike bug!

I've started cycling anywhere, anytime. I usually want to cover at least - bare minimum 60miles a week (gotta start somwhere)and thats going fine.

But I wonder, whats a good way to exersice so become a good cyclist? I confess I am not very fit, and my problem is not "producing 10 more watts" but just having the endurance to finish a 100km - period. I am lean (140lbs at 6 foot) and young (22) so there is certainly time and room for improvement.

Elite ready for winter training

No matter that the days are still long and the sun shining, Italy's home trainer maker still needs to launch its new range.

Rollers or Turbo trainer?

I'm planning to buy one to help keep me going during wet weeks like this one (and the winter). I personally prefer the freedom of rollers but think a lack of resistance might not help my already poor climbing ability.

Any suggestions on which one should I go for? Any specific models to suggest?

Cheers!

Be Realistic Ask the Impossible: Go Your Own Way

In a protracted period of denial I've put of writing this entry for long enough but I suppose it's time to face facts...  the Etape dream is over.

Well, that sounds awfully melodramatic, but for this year at least I will not be able to realise my ambition of elevating my cycling fitness level and riding the same roads as some of the Tour de France's greats in the Etape du Tour.

The agony and the ecstasy

Confession time: during the 90s I spent rather more hours than was probably strictly good for me on nightclub dancefloors, not so much enjoying the music as worshipping it.  From that life-changing moment when some reprobate slipped me an ecstasy pill at an Orbital gig in Brighton in the autumn of 1994 until just after the turn of the new millennium, I was absolutely obsessed with the music, the drugs and the culture of raving.

Be Realistic Ask the Impossible: Spin It to Win It?

At time of current writing there is a freezing blanket of fog outside the window, and a temperature of -5.  My face looks like that of a Jack Dee who's discovered his children have been fathered by another man, his dog's been ran over by a psychotic neighbour, and car's been driven into a tree by Jeremy Clarkson.  Unimpressed.

Entrusting My Fate... To Heart Rate?

Hello again!

With blizzards and temperatures dropping as low as -18 here there's really been no chance of getting out on the bike, so this week has been all about getting the most out of my indoor training on the Turbo.  Now.  Two weeks ago, these were my thoughts on turbos, but since then I've become a Turbo Aficionado Extraordinaire.  This entry will help explain why.
