Training

Winter training: there's still time!

Sometimes I feel I’ve got a lot to say, other times I think I’ll just end up having a whinge so it’s better not to start writing during those times as the resultant ramblings would make pitiful reading!

Hopes and Dreams for 2012

James

As years go 2011 was a pretty monumental one in our house... and when I say house, I mean houses.

A change in role at work, a move of home and then within four weeks our first baby. All within 12 months and one week of getting married... bullets have left guns slower than that but throughout all of the chaos and settling in, I still maintained a bit of fitness and enjoyment on my bike.

Turbo training media

Hi all after a year on the road, I'm now in the garage hitting the turbo. To be honest I find it boring, I guess I'm not alone. So, what music movies or other tips do you have for making those turbo sessions fly by?

Spare wheel for the turbo...

Hi folks - I've just set up my indoor torture facility in the garage, and after the first ride I've already noticed a change in my rear tire. I know that wear is accelerated on a trainer, and plan to get a trainer tire this week. However - I need a spare wheel to put it on. It clearly doesn't need to be an amazing one, and I'd like to keep the cost of it down as much as possible. It'll need an Ultegra standard 10 speed cassette on it.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! Big Grin

Plus, a couple of tips to help ease you back onto the bike come January

Increase leg speed (max cadence)

I'd like to increase my maximum leg speed, I have a road bike and a set of rollers, any suggestions?

I thought a spinning class would be a good idea, I went to my gym and said I wanted to increase my maximum leg speed and that I currently spin out at 180-185 rpm on my bmx and they said they couldn't help as they don't go up that high, do you guys have any suggestions?

First Trainer - Advice Sought!

Hello all - I'm in the market for an indoor trainer and having initially very much fancied the Revolution, the jet like howl it produces plus the fairly stone age computer are putting me off. I'm also looking at the CycleOps range, but it's irritating that I'll require a spare back wheel with a trainer tyre (although this'll still be cheaper than the Revolution).

Feeding The Ride Bunny

This is the Ride Bunny.
Say hello to the Ride Bunny.

The Ride Bunny sits patiently by the front door, waiting.

Every time I go for a ride I feed the Ride Bunny some money. Hungry Ride Bunny.
On the way out the door I nourish him with some loose change, £1, £1.50, maybe a £2 coin if the Ride Bunny’s been good.  A small snack of money that goes mostly unnoticed but over the months builds to quite a full tummy for the Ride Bunny.

126kg to Cat 4 racer! What does Cat 4 mean?

This is my first blog as I start winter training for the 2012 season.  In 2008 I was 126kg and struggling to ride 3.5 miles home from work, it’s now the end of 2011 and I’m planning my first season of racing, it’s funny how things have changed.
