Time Trial
Time trial on road bike without aero bars
Just wondering if anyone has advice or hints and tips on doing a time trial without aero bars.
I am competing in a series of Time Trial races, but do not have aerobars. Is it more aerodynamic to have your hands in the drops and be as low as possible or have your hands in the centre of the bars, again as low as possible?
Any other recommendations or advice would be much appreciated!
Bell Javelin Time Trial Helmet
The Bell Javelin time trial helmet shares some of the DNA of the super-fast Giro Selector. The parent company is the same and the Javelin has that familiar shape: dome-like forehead and short tail. It's 75% of the price of the Selector, shaving off a cool £60.
It's not just a poor man's Selector, however, which means I can't use either of the Bo' Selecta puns that I'd prepared: 'poor Selector' and 'no Selector'. It is, unlike those puns, rather good.
Are Aero overshoes overrated?
I have heard many different quotes for how much time aero overshoes save in a TT, everything from nothing to 20 seconds. I am sceptical. Having used overshoes for the last two years, I havent used them for my last two races and posted two massive PBs.
It might just be some weird mindset I have going on, but I really dont like the way they look - for reference I had some £20 PRO overshoes which I have seen numerous top riders using.
