Cheshire Mini Sportive Sunday 17th February

Welcome to the Cheshire Mini Sportive (last year known as NW Winter Sportive). This year we have two great routes 30 miles and 60 miles around the Cheshire Plains. Both routes have been designed by experienced local club cyclists and will ease you into the new season. Both routes are relatively flat with just a few bumps in them to keep it interesting Starting off once again at the Poynton Leisure Centre the riders will head off round the Cheshire plains. There are no big climbs, most of the route is relatively flat or undulating roads.

Anyone do the Exmoor Beast?

What a lovely day, what perfect weather, never had so much fun on a bike, are all things I would like to say about this event yesterday! The weather Saturday and today is pretty much spot on; yesterday Sad I know the area and that in a few places you can just turn off straight downhill to the finish, I was sorely tempted but cracked on anyway. This was one of those rides that you look back on with satisfaction but at the time Sad Did anyone else enjoy it as much as me?

L’Eroica: a good old-fashioned bike ride

Uh-oh! The chain has come off at the start of a steep, chalky climb. So I stop – well, more ‘fall off’ because I was out of the saddle when it happened – and put the chain back on as a dozen riders on classic bikes sail past. I get onto the saddle again, stamp on the pedals and the chain immediately comes off for a second time. I take a closer look… and see that the inner chainring has actually snapped. Damn it! There’s a long way to go and a lot of climbs to scale in just the 53-tooth outer ring. This could be tricky.

Possible new start point for 2013 event with record number of riders

Road Newbie seeks 1st bike advice!

Hi all,

I am embarking on a charity ride next summer, my first as a road rider!

We are riding across/through 25 counties in a week and the new mile tally is 556 miles, a quick calculator visit tells me that that is nearly 80 miles day.

Now my riding experience over my lifetime amounts to a touch of BMX racing in my youth and hybrid riding in recent times. As I enter my new life as a road rider I need to approach a few things to set me on my journey.
