This stem is brilliant if you’re not sure about the stem angle you need and you want to experiment with different positions, or if you want to change the height of your bars throughout the season or for different events. This is particularly handy for time triallists or triathletes. It can also come in quite handy if you want your (horizontal top tube) bike to look 'just right' and you need to the stem angle to match the top tube angle – or maybe that's just me.

Bar phat is not so much a tape as a damping system designed to reduce pressure on the hands; Specialized claim by as much as fifty percent. This makes it an obvious choice for Audax but also useful for cross and similar disciplines. Far from simply being another gel tape, the system uses four elastomer pads that fit on the top and drop sections of the bars. Tailoring the cushioning to the crucial areas provides good levels of comfort without ruining your bike’s aesthetics.

Designed for high intensity racing, Specialized’s flagship mitt, the BG Pro glove, will also delight tourists, audax, sportive and other mile munchers. Thin, yet surprisingly robust mesh backs are married to synthetic Camino leather palms with patented BG padding guarding against pain and numbness around the Ulnar nerve.

EMT is an abbreviation of Emergency Mini Tool and the comp quickly became my tool of choice around the workshop just as it did for road and trailside fettling/repair. Bristling with features, it includes 2,2.5,3,4,5,6 and 8mm Allen wrenches, disc specific tools (Pad opener, spacer tools and obligatory Torx) coupled with nifty box spanner, nylon coated tyre lever and both Phillips and flat screwdrivers- the latter crowned by a rubber cap to prevent injury in the event of a tumble.
