Last Sunday was the first weekend day that felt like spring to me, so I filled a couple of big bottles, put on some shiny new kit and headed out on the Specialized Allez Comp for my first 100-miler of the year. After a few hours on the back roads of Wiltshire and Berkshire, I came home thinking that this is a really neat, value-packed bike that deserves some serious consideration.

Hi all. My first 70.3 is coming up later this year, and I'm now giving a lot of thought to investing in a tri bike for increased comfort over the distance and hopefully a slight time advantage+the possibility of slightly fresher legs off the bike. I'm looking at three main offerings - a Trek Speed Concept in the 7.0 or possibly up to 7.5 range, one of the new Shiv models, or a Scott Plasma. I've read that the Scott bikes tend to be a lot easier to travel with and work on.

Specialized wing top handlebars, 44cm C-C with a 31.8 (oversized) diameter.

Came with a bike I bought second hand but I normally use 42cm bars.

Good condition 7/10, some lacquer came off part way around where I had a band of tape (to mark height level).

Bontrager XXX-lite Carbon bars. Anatomic, 46cm c-c width, 31.8 8/10 £75
