Cent Cols Challenge 2013 entry open

Teaser video released and entry for Alps, Pyrenees and Dolomite 10-day sportives now open

Cycling holdiay in Ariège

I am in the process of organising a cycling holiday to the Ariège in the South of France from the 9th to 16th April. I am doing it on behalf of some friends who are setting up a Gite business based in the small village of Fougax et Barrineuf which sits just below the famous Cathar fortification of Montsegur. As an experiment they asked me if I would run a cycling holiday for them. Having been there a couple of times I can confirm there are lots of wonderful cols on really quiet roads through gorgeous countryside.

Two cols on a Commencal

A 30lb Commencal hardtail. Not the weapon of choice for col bagging but that's all the lady at the tourist office in Bedous could offer me, and at €10 a day I wasn't really complaining: any bike is better than no bike.

Our base for our family week in the Pyrenees, the Fontaines D'Escot, is smack bang at the bottom of the Col de Marie Blanque – the steep side – and that was to be the first challenge of the day.
