This is a very good jersey for hot days in the saddle – and we must get a few of those before too long, surely.
The Giro is made from three different fabrics. The bulk of the jersey is simple microfibre polyester – lightweight and very stretchy stuff. Then you have the panels that run along the sides and the sides of the back; these are 3D structured mesh. They're also very stretchy and they let loads of air through.
The Oneten Primo bib shorts put in a solid performance for summer riding.
The shorts are made from six panels of a mid-weight polyamide/elastane that are cut to give a good anatomical shape. The wide leg grippers are made from a double thickness of similar (though not exactly the same) fabric. There's no silicone inside there, though, so they don't hold onto your legs as well as some. I found they could slide up a little in use – not loads, but a bit.
The OneTen knee warmers are manufactured using a circular knitting process much like their arm warmers, although these do have a seam running down the side (despite OneTen's claims to the contrary). The seam itself lies flat against the surrounding material so it shouldn't pose any risk of irritation. I also liked how OneTen have refrained from adding any annoying labels to the inside of the knee warmer, printing the care requirements on the hem instead.
OneTen is the new kid on the cycle clothing block from UK distributor Hotlines, one of the biggest cycle gear distributors in the UK. Among their range of 10 road oriented items are these rather swanky looking arm warmers.
A lightweight windproof is an incredibly useful piece of cycling kit and the Vento from OneTen is a solid option.
The Vento is made from polyamide (nylon) and it stops the wind stone dead. That means it's handy pretty much all year round bar the height of summer. It takes up about half a jersey pocket and weighs just 86g so it's easy to carry.
Put the Vento on when the temperature drops and it makes a huge difference to your warmth. Remove cold wind from the equation and you retain much more of the heat that your body generates.
The OneTen Intimo is a good, well thought-out base layer for cooler rides.
OneTen is a new British bike-clothing brand that concentrates on 'thermophysiological interactions'. Do what? They've used thermal body mapping in the design process - looking at where you produce heat and where you sweat - to decide what fabrics to use and how to use them.
