Mounting lights on o/s bars

Hey everyone,

I've got some lights from Revolution, but having difficultly mounting the front one. The bars have an oversize centre section (which is covered by the stem clamp), then tapers over the course of maybe two inches where it meets the bar tape.

I can't mount it on the taper because it won't sit securely, the bar tape is too thick for it to sit over that, and the clamp cannot be turned 90 degree, so it can't go on the stem.

Is it possible to buy an internally-tapered shim that will give the handlebar section a uniform thickness? Any other solution?

Cheers.

Battery Leak

Two of my favourite bike lights got spoilt recently with battery leaks (stocked with that white salt-like deposit inside).

Any tips on how to clean that recover that white residue and recover the lights? Or are they gone for good?

Exposure Strada Mk4 front light

Price:
£269.99

The Exposure Strada Mk4 might not be cheap but it's an exceptional light for riding unlit roads.

I reviewed the Strada Mk3 last year and got on really well with it. This time around, Exposure have increased the battery capacity and the brightness, and they've also added a new program selector (more on that in a mo).

Electron Mili USB Rechargable LED lights set

Price:
£29.99

Lookie-likie stuff is one of my guilty pleasures, so it should come as little surprise that I got quite excited by the Electron Mili USB Rechargable LED lights set twin pack. However, while a pretty good marriage of form and function, in my opinion their quirky looking Pico cousins make better choices when negotiating unlit roads.

Lifeline LED safety light (front/rear)

Price:
£9.89

At just under a tenner you'd expect the Lifeline LED safety light to be a cheap blinky for being seen around town. It's much more than that: it's a well built and genuinely capable standalone light for city riding. It's even bright enough - just - to venture beyond the streetlights.

The body of the Lifeline is a two-piece alloy affair with a tight thread and an o-ring seal holding two 2032 button cells, and the LED is housed in a proper reflector behind a good quality lens.

Electron Pico Super 2 front light

Price:
£24.99

The Electron Pico Super 2 front light is incredibly bright at the price and size, and as for battery, gives an impressive 117 hours in flashing mode. My only minor niggle was the sensitive switch.

It's a super bright, single watt design, identical to its equally potent rear sibling right down to clothing clip and resin mounting bracket, that seems strong, although the screws seemed likely to round off without taking care.
