The Primavera long sleeve jersey from OneTen aims to tackle those days when it's too warm for a jacket but too nippy for summer kit; British weather really. A technical piece of clothing, every panel's material seems to have been considered and applied to best effect.
OneTen is a new brand for me so off to the 'about us' I went. The company specifically aims to apply brain power over tradition when designing their kit, to create items that work in all the right places. The jersey feels different to any long sleeve I've used in the past.
This full-merino T-shirt is excellent quality with a couple of useful cycling-specific features, but it's not so blatantly bikey that it looks out of place when you're not in the saddle.
Castelli Velocissimo Equipe Jersey - 2012
In excellent condition, only worn once
A long sleeved jersey that's designed primarily with spring and autumn in mind, according to the website, the perplexingly named BBB Missionshield Women's LS Jersey is a lightweight full-zip long sleeved jersey, made from super stretchy Perfotec Polyester.
Ou la la, this smart short sleeved Simone jersey from French bicycle outfitter Cafe du Cycliste looks sophisticated. But the down side of looking good, using quality fabric like the perforated lightweight merino wool, and small production quantity is you are going to have to pay for it.
If onions don't make your eyes water then maybe the 130 euro price tag might. Sacré bleu! Ok, you need to enjoy your threads to spend so much on a short sleeved jersey, if you are the person who wears Aldi's finest in public then stop reading now.
Cold-weather cycling clothing is now a necessity, and dhb's Vaeon Roubaix Long Sleeve jersey is a fine insulated top for autumn and early winter with a good fit and decent price.
It's made from the same 235g Lombardia Roubaix Lycra as used in the Vaeon Roubaix Bib tights. A mid-weight fabric, it isn't too bulky and fits closely next to the body and works well in the current temperatures. Paired with a short sleeve base layer it's good for harder training rides, or worn with a long sleeve base layer is good for steady tempo rides.
The Castelli Trasparente Due Wind Jersey is a winner for autumn and spring riding – it has performed superbly over the past few weeks.
The Trasparente is actually one of those tops that splits the difference between a jersey and a jacket. I'll get that in early so you don't write it off as a too expensive jersey. That would be a mistake.
dhb have really come a long way in the few years since it was launched as a clothing brand by online retailer Wiggle, and the Blade Windslam long sleeve jersey is a fine example of how well designed and keenly priced their clothing is.
An Italian Lombardia 235g Roubaix fabric is used in the construction of the jersey which has a remarkably soft feel next to the skin. To live up to its Windslam name there's a windproof membrane on the chest and outer arms panels so that the part of you facing into the wind is well protected.
The Bontrager RXL short sleeve Jersey is a lightweight option for the hot weather.
It's made from summer-weight polyester. The body fabric is what Bontager call Profila Dry while the side panels, which extend around to the underside of the arms, are Profila Cool. Both are reasonably stretchy and they dry superfast if you get them sweaty. The big difference between them is that while the Profila Dry is a standard knit, the Profila Cool is a mesh for extra ventilation.
A proper full-on summer jersey this one, designed for those days when the sun is melting both you and the tarmac and speed is the name of the game. The Oxygen FZ Lady is designed with high performance road riders in mind, to deliver comfort and a stable temperature during rides of any distance.
