When I questioned the Mayor about his involvement in the failure to agree adequate safety improvements to Bow Roundabout when the cycling superhighway was built there, Boris made it very clear that neither he, nor his officers, get involved in the detail of individual cycling schemes.

You can see from the YouTube exchange below that things got rather heated at Mayor’s Question Time the other day. The reason I care about how and why two cyclists died at Bow Roundabout is because I simply don’t want the same mistakes to be made again. In the five years from 2005 to 2010, we had eight slight injuries of cyclists and two serious ones. A few months after the Cycle Superhighway directed people onto Bow Roundabout we had two fatalities. This does not seem like an unfortunate coincidence.

London Assembly Member Jenny Jones, the Green Party's candidate in the forthcoming Mayoral Elections, says that basic issues that would make life easier for the capital's cyclists are still not being dealt with, as outlined in this blog post from her.
