Thank God for the pizza dish

“That’s quite a pizza dish you’ve got there”, says the veteran club cyclist, viewing my new cassette with its 30-tooth biggest cog. My shame grows as I follow his disdainful gaze forward to the compact chain rings. I can almost hear his brain make the calculation: this clown has a 30-inch gear! On a racing bike!

Mow Cop

I've signed up to do the Wiggle Cheshire Cat sportive on 24th March, which involves climbing Mow Cop, bits of which I understand are 25%! My lowest gear is a 34 front x 28 rear and I'm in reasonably good nick - 6'3", but only 71 kg. How hard is it, actually? How long is the 25% bit? Any help appreciated!

Riding your bike and training are two different things

I've been kidding myself for a while that I'm training, it's the buzz-word that's given to any kind of exercise these days.  I started riding my bike to lose weight, at some point that became “training”, that magic word that makes it sound like you've got a purpose.
