Green Oil
Green Oil Eco Sponge
Green Oil's Eco Sponge is good for dealing with stubborn, congealed gunge and grime, but the fibrous pad demands regular rinsing to prevent ingrained grit and similar contaminants scratching delicate surfaces, so proceed with particular caution around carbon fibre and similar finishes.
Imported from the Philippines as a fair trade product, the 'Sponge' is a by-product of the Luffa plant whose identity lies somewhere between a shredded wheat cereal and bath-side exfoliant.
Green Oil Bicycle Brush
Reverend Audane here; dropping by to report that Green Oil Bicycle Brush makes short work of post-ride clean ups, effortlessly purging the demon filth from tyres, rims, cassettes and other drivetrain components. However, contrary to the blurb, prolonged testing suggests the biodegradable bristles aren't the kindest to thinner frame finishes, or indeed the latest generation of sophisticated polymer handlebar coverings.
Green Oil White Super Dry Chain Wax
I feel slightly guilty for criticising Green Oil. I rated their basic lube, and they have so far managed to combine impeccable eco-credentials with products that actually work - and work well. However, their latest offering, White Super Dry Chain Wax, is far from impressive.
To be honest, I'm not a big fan of this type of lube. It gives you a chain that runs very clean and is easy to wash, but unless you ride track or have a fair weather TT bike it generally wears off too easily to be useful.
Green Oil Eco Rider bike mainenance kit
Green oil eco rider maintenance kit contains the brand's ensemble (bar two) of cleaning/lubricating goodies in a single, ice cream sized tub. Performance easily matches its environmental credentials, competing handsomely on price and prowess with the more traditional petrochemical types. Pedants will point out the bucket is made from polypropylene-plastic which most councils cannot recycle but ours will be reincarnated as a handy storage bucket.
Green Oil CF-3 reusable lube spray
Green Oil CF3 is easily on par with traditional aerosols which (despite the banning of ozone destructive CFC) still contain hazardous substances within their product and/or propellant. All the CF3 requires is a few simple pumps to pressurise the contents, which can be refilled continuously from the Green-Oil range. You probably could use this with thin petrochemical lubes too, but if you are fond of sunnier climes take note that this would prevent you taking it on a flight-say to a training camp.
Green Oil Ecogrease
Green Oil’s Eco Grease is a medium weight, general-purpose lube perfect for summer applications on areas such as cantilever bosses, derailleur hanger and pedal threads. Bikes in continually hard service (especially those with unsealed bearings and sans guards) will probably benefit from something stiffer, although a regime of wet weather riding coupled with repeated washing has to date, made little impression upon the blend.
Green Oil chain lube
Oil. It's expensive, smelly and the cause of more global conflict than the old Mac vs PC debate. Sadly, even switching from four wheels to two still leaves the eco-friendly cyclist reliant on the stuff for keeping chains happy. Happily a solution is at hand in the form of Green Oil.
Green Oil Green Clean bike spray
Derived from 100% natural citrus oils, Green Oil’s Green Clean is every bit as effective as other brands of miracle wash, eating road grime for breakfast and congealed grease for lunch. Kind to seals and other rubber components, it's completely harmless to plants, humans, pets and even cleans up after itself. The only things left behind are shiny steeds and a sweet citrus fragrance.
