Life in the slow lane

As I snuck under the Metric Century Challenge February deadline on the last day possible, labouring hopelessly at no more than a brisk walking pace up the gentle hill from the seafront to my house after an agonizing 68-miler, it struck me that these are the rides that make the Challenge challenging.

Jon Snow's biological age

Jon Snow ( a British television broadcaster) is quoted in today's Grauniad as saying

" I had my biological age tested the other day. I'm 57 although technically I'm 64. That's not bad. Cycling."

Hurrah for he, but for all that pain I was hoping to get a tad more than seven years out of cycling for myself - if I don't get turned into bendy-bus jam in the meantime that is .

Any one know about this biological age testing thingie?

Alternative exercise to benefit my cycling

I am a road cyclist and am riding with a club with the aim of racing in the not to distant future. Right not my focus is improving my fitness, endurance and speed.
My wife is an experienced horse rider and I have the opportunity to learn to ride horses. Can anyone tell me if this would offer any benefit to my cycling performance. Having never experienced horse riding I may be wrong, but imagine that leg strength, core strength, endurance and balance are crucial and this should translate nicely into cycling?

Elite ready for winter training

No matter that the days are still long and the sun shining, Italy's home trainer maker still needs to launch its new range.

How do I lose weight while building strength?

Hi. I've altered my diet and worked hard to drop from 86kg to 75kg in the last few months. Feeling much better, and much faster, but I still want (need) to drop a few more. I'm beginning to find that losing weight (by cutting calories) isn't compatible with maintaining enough stamina for two full and hard rides at the weekend. What am I doing wrong? Any advice?
