Etape

Etape Insurance Advice

People of the forum,

I'm looking into insurance for me on this year's Etape, particularly third party liability and personal accident cover.

Does anyone have any experience or advice on obtaining insurance for participating in a cycling event abroad that they could please share?

Tourmalet as Spectator - How to get to the summit without cycling??

Hi folks!

I'm riding the Etape this July and my friends family are planning a mid-ride viewing point (and musette hand-out) a the top of the Tourmalet. They're not really cyclists so tapping it out to the top isn't an option. The road is also closed

How else can they get up? Do the ski lifts still operate in the summer? are there other roads up to the summit?

Any help gratefully received

Thanks. Lindo

Etape Du Tour 2012 - Who's signed up?

Hi,
As registration opened yesterday for the 2012 Etape Du Tour, I was wondering if there was a lot of interest out there in forum-land to sign-up?
For 2012 Etape I've signed up to do both Acte 1 and Acte 2 (gulp!) so lots of training motivation already.
The cunning plan this year is to offload a bike's worth of weight in my build up as Alpe D'Huez this year was a struggle in the heat, and I'd like to be a bit more Contador than Cavendish climbing those 'lumps'.
For any of you who haven't done it before, its a great experience in beautiful surroundings and i thoroughly recommend it

Rapha etape kit

Hi. Sorry to use the forums for this, but Rapha produced special edition Etape jerseys for both Acte 1 and 2. These were obviously propular as they have sold out of XL sizes for Acte 1 (no surprise plenty of smalls left!). Does anyone know how I might get hold of a jersey as I want to show off cycling around Surrey! Cheers.

FS Accommodation Etape Acte 1 Alpe Huez - Studio Flat in Alpe Huez 9th-16th July - £295 and Entry Up for Grabs.

Right. You all know the story. Training for Etape, twatted off my bike by a twat in a twatmobile. Can't do it anymore.

Anyone still looking for a place to stay for a week in a nice private let studio flat just next to the finish line in Alpe d'Huez? Very reasonable rate and nice place to stay.... Also have a spare entry going.

Get in touch if so and I'll put you in touch with the owner and hopefullY get my deposit back ;(

Thanks people.

Be Realistic Ask the Impossible: Go Your Own Way

In a protracted period of denial I've put of writing this entry for long enough but I suppose it's time to face facts...  the Etape dream is over.

Well, that sounds awfully melodramatic, but for this year at least I will not be able to realise my ambition of elevating my cycling fitness level and riding the same roads as some of the Tour de France's greats in the Etape du Tour.

L'etape du Tour 2011 Accommodation?

I'm due to take part in the Etape du Tour 2011 on the 11th July (ie the Alpe d'huez one). I got my place independently and haven't thought about accommodation yet. Does anyone have any good advice on accommodation options in Modane? The cheaper the better and I'm happy to camp!

Also I've not been sent anything by the organisers, is that normal?

Thanks, Jack

Be Realistic Ask the Impossible: A Nifty Hilly 50...

After a forced 2 week hiatus from training due to illness that left me feeling more than a bit despondent, last week I was desperate to get some really positive training in as well as a lot more miles into the legs and a bit more structure.  And enjoy it, too!

Be Realistic Ask the Impossible: Spin It to Win It?

At time of current writing there is a freezing blanket of fog outside the window, and a temperature of -5.  My face looks like that of a Jack Dee who's discovered his children have been fathered by another man, his dog's been ran over by a psychotic neighbour, and car's been driven into a tree by Jeremy Clarkson.  Unimpressed.
