Shimano RS80 C50 wheelset
We've long held Shimano's shallow-section RS80s to be one of the better mid-range standard wheelsets on the market, so were keen to get our hands on these deep section C50 hoops to see if they measure up. And they do, pretty much: they're well made, fast at speed and good-looking. Only the weight lets them down.
Pro-Lite Gavia wheelset
Pro-Lite are a name that have been around for a few years now associated with a top end range of frames, wheels and components to include bars, stems and chainsets, always lightweight, lots of carbon fibre composites, titanium and ultra lightweight alloys. Their Gavia wheels have 50mm deep section carbon fibre rims for tubular tyres and flat black blade type spokes with CNC machined Bolzano hubs designed so that the spokes enter the edge of a broad flange rather than the traditional hole in the side method.
Cannondale R600
Dilemma - I have a Cannondale R600, used for a year or then got the Orange to commute, I want to get into sportives, do I keep the Cannondale & swop the wheels (Gipiemme T-Tre 30 S) or sell it & get a new bike on the cycle to work scheme, i am thinking Boardman / Planet x / Dolan? Suggestions appreciated
Miche Xpress wheeleset
With an asking price around the £200 mark, Miche’s Xpress are a very worthy wheelset for mid to upper end road fixer builds. They might lack the outright rigidity of a deep section aero rim but machined sidewalls and super smooth CNC machined hubs complete with sealed cartridge bearings mean they’ll laugh at the grottier months- they’re good enough to double as track hoops too.
