British cyclist dies after being 'deliberately rammed' in Saudi Arabia

A British man cycling with a group of friends near Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, died after a car apparently rammed them deliberately.

John Currie, a BAE Systems human resources worker from Chester, was with a group of four riders who started being cut up by local youths in two cars.

Initially, it is understood that one of the cars clipped a cyclist causing him to fall off his bike. Then, however, one of the drivers is alleged to have turned around and deliberately ploughed his car into the cyclists.

The world of cycling is today mourning the death at 45 years of age of Italy’s national coach, Franco Ballerini, who has died from injuries sustained in a crash this morning during a rally in Larciano, Tuscany, where he was acting as navigator in a car driven by Alessandro Ciardi.

Inquiry to be held into Scots cycling champ's death

An fatal accident inquiry into the death of a top Scots cyclist who was killed two years ago near Fort William is to be held in March.

Jason McIntyre's death at the age of 34 marked the end of a very promising career that included three British time trial titles and 13 Scottish titles. At the time of his death he was training in the hope of inclusion for the Olympics and Commonwealth Games.

On January 15, 2008, he was involved in a collision with a Highland Council truck on the A82 Glasgow-Inverness road near the council depot at Carrs Corner.

Coroner calls for children to be taught bike maintenance skills

A coroner in Oxfordshire has called on parents and teachers to make sure that children are taught how to maintain their bicycles properly. The appeal was issued at the conclusion of an inquest into the death of 11-year-old schoolgirl Ty-Ree Partridge, whose bike was described by a police expert as being in the worst condition of any he had seen in years.

A 19-year-old German cyclist killed by a lorry in New Zealand last week had blogged only days before her death about the danger posed by speeding drivers on the country’s roads posed only days before her death.

Mia Pusch, from Fulda, north-east of Frankfurt, died last Tuesday after being struck by a lorry on State Highway 3 near the town of Bulls in the country’s North Island while on an extended solo cycling trip through Australian and New Zealand.

A cyclist killed at a central London junction would still be alive if the lorry that hit her hadn't broken the law, her boyfriend told an inquest.

Maria Fernandez, 24, died from head injuries sustained following the crash at Holborn Circus. A bin lorry had crept into the green 'bike box' zone at the lights then turned left, dragging the student under its wheels.

A Scottish jury has returned a verdict of ‘not proven’ in the trial of a motorist accused of killing a cyclist while she was taking part in a charity cycling ride to commemorate her late husband.

The verdict is unique to Scots law and provides a third option where the judge or jury - depending upon which is deciding the case - are not satisfied that the prosecution has proved its case sufficiently for a conviction to be returned, but at the same time are not convinced enough of the defendant’s innocence to deliver a not guilty verdict.

A drunk driver who killed a veteran southern counties road cyclist near Southampton has been jailed for seven-and-a-half years.

Derek Witt, 60, a member of the DHC Racing Team, died instantly when a car driven by Michael Filgate careered out of control and crashed into him on Itchen Bridge last August.
