Sherrif considers decision in Jason MacIntyre Fatal Accident Inquiry

A Fatal Accident Inquiry in Fort William into the death of Scottish cyclist Jason MacIntryre concluded today, with the champion cyclist’s widow Caroline saying that she was glad to have heard a full account of the events of the day her husband was killed.

Sherrif Douglas Hall will deliver his determination – similar to the verdict in a Coroner’s Inquest in England and Wales – at a later date.

A Grimsby man who was fined £750 when the bike he was riding on the pavement struck a five-year-old child has claimed that he was forced to ride there because the adjacent road was too dangerous.

New Zealand’s High Court has overturned the conviction of a Wellington man fined for cycling nude on a country road, although the judge was at pains to point out that the ruling did not give cyclists the right to dispense with the Lycra altogether, since individual cases would need to be decided on their own merits.

Nick Lowe, a builder, had been fined NZ$200 plus costs after being stopped by police as he rode his bike near Upper Hutt, 32 kilometres north of Wellington, in March last year following a complaint by a passing female motorist.

A 19-year-old driver who killed a cyclist as he took part in a time trial has received a 21-month prison sentence for causing death by dangerous driving.

The victim, army officer Major Gareth Rhys Evans, had been taking part in the race, organised by Ichield Road Cycling Club, when he was hit from behind by Katie Hart’s Ford Ka on the A1 near St Neots, Cambridgeshire, in May last year.

Mark Jamieson, a member of Australia’s World Championship winning team pursuit squad in Bordeaux in 2006, has admitted four counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and one charge of sexual assault.

The 25-year-old from Tasmania, who was also a member of the Australian team at the Beijing Olympics, appeared before the South Australian District Court earlier today, where he denied one further charge of gross indecency.

Cyclists’ organisation CTC has said that the case of a teenage driver who repeatedly drove at a cyclist in an attempt to run him off the road is just one example of the dangerous driving that bike riders face on a daily basis, and has urged cyclist to continue to report bad driving.

Charges dropped against driver who killed cyclist after apparently fainting

Charges against a driver whose Range Rover struck and killed a cyclist in Warrington in September 2008 were dropped yesterday after a judge heard that she had probably fainted at the wheel.

Mother-of-three Sharon Corless, aged 43, was killed when she was dragged under the vehicle while on a bike ride with her husband Peter, who also suffered serious injuries in the incident.

Station bike thief gets two-year train ban ASBO

A thief from Norfolk who targeted bikes left by commuters at railway stations has received a ban from traveling anywhere on the railway network in England & Wales with a bicycle.

James Leonard, 42, was issued with an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) lasting two years, expriring in December 2011, that also bans him from carrying tools including pliers or bolt-croppers.
