Cycle parking
You may be interested in a new website that enables people to comment on cycle parking in their area. By visiting www.ParkThatBike.info people can identify places where cycle parking is needed, report existing cycle parking that is damaged or vandalised, and flag up wheel-benders, slotted slabs, and other horror stories.
The site uses Google mapping and satellite views to let users mark the location precisely. People can comment on cycle parking both on-highway, in public spaces, and at key destinations such as railway stations, leisure centres, libraries, surgeries, etc.
Bike Security and Bike Storage
I mentioned this in passing a couple of weeks ago and since a few guys from the club came around the other week thought it was a top idea and a couple have ordered them. so they advised me to post details of it in a forum or 2 as others may benefit. As most of them have had bikes nicked at some point (touch wood not me yet)One poor bloke had 3 nicked .. from inside his house as he slept upstairs. They broke in JUST for the bikes!
1st I don't work for these guys!! But:
Kryptonite New York 3000 U lock
The Kryptonite New York 3000 isn't top of the range but is plenty tough enough to repel most criminals and is a good choice for everyday use where bike security is a necessity.
The New York features a 16mm hardened steel shackle and a disc-style cylinder with three keys supplied. The shackle locks at both ends into the base, and the lock mounts onto your bike with a metal sleeve on the shackle which slots into a resin bracket. The lock stayed put well over rough roads, and the LED key is a nice, if increasingly common, touch.
OnGuard Pitbull U-Lock
The Pitbull is a mid-range lock from a mid-range manufacturer but it punches above its weight when it's attacked and is a worthy deterrent around town. The bracket isn't the best but other than that it performed very well.
Alpha Dot Cycle Kit
In keeping with similar security technologies, Alpha Dot won’t stop a thief half inching your steed, but coupled with stout locks and other sensible security the set makes bikes and components much harder to sell-on and more likely to be returned to their rightful owners. it can also reduce insurance premiums.
