Fenwicks foaming degreaser… the death of the chain bath?

Fenwicks FS foaming degreaser

Chains, eh? Tricky little blighters. One second they're spinning silently round your cassette, the very embodiment of the word 'efficiency', the next they're a noisy, mangled, rusty mess. And cleaning them is a sisyphean ordeal, no sooner have you finished with your chain bath and toothbrush than it's time to strip the whole thing down again.

Muc-Off De-greaser

Muc-Off degreaser
Price:
£5.87

Muc-Off’s water soluble degreaser is a very proficient solvent based cleanser that makes short work of accumulated grease and grime and to that end makes a very handy workshop companion. The fact it easily washes away without obvious trace or harmful effect is a real bonus-especially if you're working on a patio or more ornate surface. However, while in a pinch it will tackle headset overhaul, it struggles with waterproof marine greases and care is required on delicate finishes.

Cleaning my bike makes it all feel better.

I would describe this weekends cycling as 'memorable'. I took the rain early in my ride on Saturday and on the bleak top road above Moonshine Gap the stiff wind dried me out... I was ok. As the saying goes...

"There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad preparation and the wrong clothes"

Sunday was a different matter altogether. The great thing about the huge panoramic, uninterupted Fenland skies is that you can see cloud and showers of rain and ride around them.
