More Battle on the Beach entries available, for one day only

Howies Battle on the Beach, set to return to Pembrey Country Park and Cefn Sidan beach on March 22nd, sold out of its 500 places within two days of opening, but it’s ready to release a further limited number of entries. But for one day only.

Well, not surprisingly due to the fact that the prize was hours of pain on a Welsh beach in March rather than a pile of shiny things, entries were a bit down for this'n.

But still some hardy souls put their names in the hat, and the hardy soul whose name got picked out was Hanneke. Congrats to them and sorry to all the other masochists who missed out. More schwag soon!


Howies Battle on the Beach brings beach racing to the UK

If you enjoyed Jo's feature on beach racing in the Netherlands and you fancy a crack at it then you might be pleased to hear that the UK will have its very own beach race next year: Howies Battle on the Beach, on 16 March.

There are 799 people on this start line more prepared for this race than I am. Those are not good odds for contending a Top Ten. Or hundred.

I’m stood thermal lycra to thermal lycra on the promenade at Noordwijk on the North Sea coast of Holland. In summer this place is absolutely heaving, the vast expanse of beach a sandy Mecca for most of northern Europe and their Speedos but today, on a grey windy mid December morning, it’s the preserve of hardy dog walkers, kite-surfers, and cyclists. A very peculiar breed of cyclist at that; the beach racer.
