Yorkshire cyclists are being encouraged to explore a new Sustrans route around Richmond on Saturday, September 18.
The sustainable transport charity is organising a ‘Fresh Air Miles’ ride, in conjunction with Globe bikes, along the new traffic-free Greenway between Richmond station and Catterick Garrison.
The Greenway, open for a year, will soon form part of the National Cycle Network, which covers more than 12,000 miles across the UK and celebrates its fifteenth anniversary this year.
Sustrans’ Connect2 network continues to advance with the submission of a planning application that will make the Whitstable seafront in Kent more accessible to cyclists.
The application to Canterbury City Council is for two new bridges over Old Bridge Road and Teynham Road, submitted on behalf of the Crab and Winkle Line Trust. The bridges will form part of a newly created route for walkers and cyclists between the existing Crab and Winkle Way at All Saints Close and the Whitstable seafront.
Organisers of the Bristol Cycle Festival are appealing to the local community to get involved by coming up with ideas for ways to celebrate cycling in Bristol.
The Festival is the result of a collaboration between organisations including Bristol’s Neighbourhood Arts team, Spoke n Chain, Team Rubber, the Bike Forum and the Shambala Festival. It has been made possible through the financial support of Bristol City Council’s Cycling City fund.
National cyclists organisation CTC has joined forces with the The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and several other road safety and motoring organisations to urge councils to reconsider abandoning speed cameras as a result of budget cuts.
Sustrans, the sustainable transport charity, has announced that it has submitted a planning application for a new walking and cycling route that will help provide a link for locals and visitors alike to one of Britain’s best known beauty spots.
The new, mainly off-road, route links Chepstow and Tintern, and largely follows the course of the former Wye Valley railway line through the river’s lower gorge, and includes two former railway tunnels as well as a new bridge that will cross the river at the site of the former railway bridge.
