Five cool things coming soon from Proviz, Genuine Innovations, Tern, Catlike and Hydroflask

More kit, tech and accessories that have particularly piqued our interest this week before the road.cc verdicts are delivered

As we motor through the last few weeks of the cold weather towards a brighter outlook, we're still making the most of the dark and dank conditions to try out the best jackets, lights and wet weather gear before the clocks go forward, two of such products are previewed below...

Tern Vizy rear light

£44.00

Tern Vizy Light.jpg

Our resident e-bike fanatic Dave Atkinson waxed lyrical over Tern's GSD cargo bike, and their latest urban innovation is a rear light that projects 360° of radial light on the ground while you ride. This creates a clear signal for cars to pass at a safe distance, illuminating your body so drivers can see you more easily, so say Tern. It’s weatherproof with IPX5 water resistance, rechargeable and has 5-7.5 hours of run time, with 60 lumens of power. The quick-release mount makes taking it on and off a piece of cake. Mike Stenning is reviewing this cunning rear light at the moment, with a review coming shortly.

Catlike Tako helmet

£44.99

Catlike Tako White-Black Helmet 2.jpg

This commuter helmet is affordable and has a sporty, yet functional and compact design. The Tako comes with a removable visor and can accommodate those riders who need a larger helmet, with the bigger size accommodating up to a 62cm bonce. Our man Steve Williams is trying it out right now.

Hydro Flask 18oz flask

$29.95

Hydro Flask 18oz Standard mouth insulated bottle.jpg

A bit like an old-school stainless steel bottle in appearance but with plenty of modern features packed in, this flask holds just under a pint of fluid and also comes with a  sports cap too for added convenience. Its TempShield insulation tech eliminates condensation and keeps beverages cold up to 24 hours or hot up to 12 hours, useful to know if you fancy tea instead of water on your next wintery ride. It's made with durable 18/8 Pro-Grade Stainless Steel and is BPA-Free and Phthalate-Free. Is it a decent alternative to the usual sports bottle for cycling? Mike Stead is sipping from it now...

Genuine Innovations Ultraflate Co2 inflator

£19.99

Genuine Innovations Ultraflate CO2 Inflator - open.jpg

Weighing just 62g, The Ultraflate is described as Genuine Innovations’ "most tried and trusted cupped inflator". it's supposed to be comfortable to hold and built to last, with a reinforced glass nylon construction and brass internals to take the strain of everyday use. it's compatible with 20g threaded, 20g non threaded and 16g threaded cartridges, and trigger-controlled for fast inflation with a lock to prevent accidental discharge. It also works with both Presta and Schrader valves. Is it a failsafe solution for faster inflation? Sean Lacey's verdict is due shortly.

Proviz Reflect 360 Elite

£229.99

Proviz Reflect 360 Elite Mens Cycling Jacket - riding.jpg

Proviz have become something of a byword for hi-visibility cycle clothing in the last few years, and regardless of your opinion on whether glowing in the dark is essential or not, they make some quality and hard-wearing kit. This jacket is at the top of their range price-wise, aimed at the serious cyclist which breaks with their usual commuter-orientated gear (we reported on its launch back in December). The jacket has a unique four-way stretch reflective material made in Italy, with the added benefit of being fully reflective when caught in a vehicle's headlights. The material has millions of tiny reflective beads embedded in it, so when a vehicle's headlights hit the jacket, the beads reflective the light back to the light source meaning the driver should be able to identify the cyclist further in advance than normal and manoeuvre appropriately. It's also wind-resistant, water-resistant and plenty breathable. Is the Proviz hi-vis the way forward? Neil Gander's verdict is due soon.

Arriving at road.cc in 2017 via 220 Triathlon Magazine, Jack dipped his toe in most jobs on the site and over at eBikeTips before being named the new editor of road.cc in 2020, much to his surprise. His cycling life began during his students days, when he cobbled together a few hundred quid off the back of a hard winter selling hats (long story) and bought his first road bike - a Trek 1.1 that was quickly relegated to winter steed, before it was sadly pinched a few years later. Creatively replacing it with a Trek 1.2, Jack mostly rides this bike around local cycle paths nowadays, but when he wants to get the racer out and be competitive his preferred events are time trials, sportives, triathlons and pogo sticking - the latter being another long story.

That Tern light looks remarkably similar to a Guee Inox one

Pretty sure that I saw the Guee one on here but I can't find it now

I think it probably piqued your interest, unless you mean it was the most interesting thing ever and it's all downhill from now on, I guess then you could say your interest peaked.
