As we motor through the last few weeks of the cold weather towards a brighter outlook, we're still making the most of the dark and dank conditions to try out the best jackets, lights and wet weather gear before the clocks go forward, two of such products are previewed below...

Our resident e-bike fanatic Dave Atkinson waxed lyrical over Tern's GSD cargo bike, and their latest urban innovation is a rear light that projects 360° of radial light on the ground while you ride. This creates a clear signal for cars to pass at a safe distance, illuminating your body so drivers can see you more easily, so say Tern. It’s weatherproof with IPX5 water resistance, rechargeable and has 5-7.5 hours of run time, with 60 lumens of power. The quick-release mount makes taking it on and off a piece of cake. Weighing just 62g, The Ultraflate is described as Genuine Innovations’ "most tried and trusted cupped inflator". it's supposed to be comfortable to hold and built to last, with a reinforced glass nylon construction and brass internals to take the strain of everyday use. it's compatible with 20g threaded, 20g non threaded and 16g threaded cartridges, and trigger-controlled for fast inflation with a lock to prevent accidental discharge. It also works with both Presta and Schrader valves. Is it a failsafe solution for faster inflation? Sean Lacey's verdict is due shortly.

Proviz Reflect 360 Elite

Proviz have become something of a byword for hi-visibility cycle clothing in the last few years, and regardless of your opinion on whether glowing in the dark is essential or not, they make some quality and hard-wearing kit. This jacket is at the top of their range price-wise, aimed at the serious cyclist which breaks with their usual commuter-orientated gear (we reported on its launch back in December). The jacket has a unique four-way stretch reflective material made in Italy, with the added benefit of being fully reflective when caught in a vehicle's headlights. The material has millions of tiny reflective beads embedded in it, so when a vehicle's headlights hit the jacket, the beads reflective the light back to the light source meaning the driver should be able to identify the cyclist further in advance than normal and manoeuvre appropriately. It's also wind-resistant, water-resistant and plenty breathable. Is the Proviz hi-vis the way forward? Neil Gander's verdict is due soon.
