Six eyecatching designs from Berlin Bike Show

We’ve been rushing around the Berlin Bike Show – or the Berliner Fahrradschau, to give it it’s proper name – prior to its opening this evening and here are half a dozen of the many things that have caught the collective road.cc eye so far…

1. Cinelli Nemo TIG steel road bike

The new Cinelli Nemo TIG is made from Columbus Spirit tubing – oversized triple-butted steel. It comes with a tapered head tube with a 1 1/2in lower bearing

If you want to buy in the UK the frameset is £1,599. Pay an extra £200 and you can have any non-standard colour you want. There’s a lead time of about 30 days on a custom colour.

2. Upso bags
You’ll never guess what Carradice sub-brand Upso uses to make its bags. Oh, alright, you did guess: lorry tarpaulins.

Once the tarpaulins have reached the end of their life in the haulage business, Upso has them industrially cleaned and turns them into something new.

They do a whole range: panniers, despatch (messenger) bags (£45), backpacks (£60), and loads more styles. These are the new seatpacks (above).

This cabin bag (£85) is sized to be permitted as hand luggage when you fly.

We think the bags look very, very cool. Plus, each one is unique because of the nature of the material used.

3. Keim Cycles Arvak wooden bike

There are a lot of wooden bikes here at the Berlin show; this one, made of white ash, is from France’s Keim. 

It comes with a carbon fork and wheels, and without a seat tube or seatpost. 

It doesn’t look like you get a great deal of adjustability here but the look is certainly striking.

4. Primarius road bike

This bike from bespoke brand Primarius is unusual for a number of reasons. Mass market, it ain’t. It’s has a single gear, eccentric bottom bracket, disc brakes, integrated seatpost with a seatmast, co-ordinated mudguards… we’re not sure what’s going on with the lighting but we’ll try to find out later. 

We love this little plate at the driveside rear dropout but,if we're being picky' shouldn’t that be ‘built’?

5. Johnny Loco cargo bike
Johnny Loco is another brand from the Netherlands, specialising in urban bikes, delivery bikes, beach cruisers and cargo bikes. You can use that front carrier section to transport shopping, children, elderly relatives… that sort of stuff. 

This one comes with a Shimano Nexus hub with seven gears and a roller brake, plus disc brakes up front. You can get it either with or without electrical assistance.

6. Quoc shoes
Quoc make some neat shoes in several different styles. The new Night shoe is available to preorder from the end of the month (31 March 2016) with-order fulfillment and full availability from July.

The upper is synthetic on most of the models although a black leather version will be available too (that’s the one at the far end). 

The outsole is carbon-fibre/nylon. It is compatible with three-bolt (road-type, Look, Shimano, Time etc) cleats.

The heel strip is 3M reflective for safety at night.
