At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

The Neo Toecovers from rh+ are a good clothing choice for when it's not cold enough for full overshoes but you want a little extra protection and insulation for your toes. The neoprene fabric easily blocks the draughty vents in the front of racey shoe, and also keep your shoes reasonably dry when the roads are damp, but not sodden, and there's a bit of spray from the front wheel.

The neoprene provides a surprising degree of insulation. Typically I wear Belgian-style oversocks at this time of year, when the roads are covered in dirt and water and there's a chill in the air, before switching to thicker overshoes in the winter. These toe covers are an alternative to oversocks and actually provide quite a bit more warmth. They don't stop half the shoe getting covered in filth though.

They are a 'one size fits all size' and they fitted snugly over my size 45 Gaerne shoes and nestled over the lower of the two Boa dials. During riding they didn't budge, remaining firmly in place. The cleat hole easily accommodated my Speedplay cleats too. There's a couple of reflective details, but they're mostly understated in looks.

You can buy a pair of oversocks - also very good for autumn riding when it's not cold enough for full winter clothing - for about half the price. They're cheaper than full overshoes though. Another less obvious use for toe covers is to wear them under overshoes on really cold days for a double layer of insulation over the toes, a good tip for anyone who suffers from poor circulation, as I do.

Verdict

A useful option for autumn weather to keep toes from getting chilly in well ventilated cycling shoes.
