At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

Nutrition is a huge part of cycling whether you are out for a short spin or an all day epic. You need fuel and if you're particularly active then you'll need energy even off the bike. The Myprotein Protein Cookie provides both fuel and the rebuilding blocks your body needs after exercise.

How do you stay fueled at work during your normal day? MyProtein think they've come up with the answer. Their protein cookie is soft and packed with with over 50% protein. That's 37g in the total of 75g. The daily recommended level for an adult is 56g, so in one cookie you have a substantial slice of your everyday requirement. You also get a reasonable dose of sugar thrown into the mix.

It also means if the protein bars and shakes aren't really your thing then these cookies may be a favourable alternative. There are four flavours, double chocolate, chocolate orange, chocolate mint and white chocolate almond. There is a bit of theme in that chocolate features in all four but not necessarily a bad thing.

Now the cookie is quite large in size but very flat and soft so could easily be broken into small chucks to fit in a jersey pocket. MyProtein recommend the cookies are consumed as a means of increasing your daily protein levels and is ideal before or after a workout. There is no reason why you couldn't have one when hunger strikes to be honest.

The cookies are meant to supplement an active lifestyle, especially those who are exercising on a regular basis. The mixture of simple and complex carbohydrates provide energy to help fuel your training or improve your recovery.

The difficulty with many nutritional products is either the taste or the texture of the products. I've already mentioned how soft the cookies are. As a result they are pretty chewy which means you'll only manage small mouthfuls if you're eating on the move. The double chocolate and chocolate orange are pleasant enough but there is a slight bitter aftertaste. If you're drinking plenty then you'll not mind this but the cookies didn't stop me feeling hungary which to me is counter productive. If I'm taking on board a snack then I want to enjoy it but take the edge off my hunger too.

Verdict

A tasty snack packed full of protein, carbohydrates and sugar but leaves you feeling unsatisfied.

The soft texture of the cookie means it can be broken up before a ride so it can be easily consumed on the move. If you're eating as a snack then it can be easily torn although first impressions leave it looking slightly squashed.
