Raceware Direct GoPro mount

Raceware Direct's GoPro mount is a simple and effective way to stick a camera on your bars. It's simple and it works very well.

Raceware's kit is mostly 3D printed from nylon and comes in a range of colours. This GoPro mount will accept any camera that uses the same mounting standard as the market leader; that includes Muvi's bigger cameras, and Nilox units. The mount is little more than a nylon loop for the bars that tightens with an Allen bolt (there's a brass insert in the nylon for it to tighten against) and the three-pronged camera mount that you attach to the waterproof housing with a thumb bolt.

Once everything's in place (it was a snug fit against an oversize bar) it holds the camera very solidly. The nylon grips the bars very well so there's no need for a shim, and similarly it's possible to tighten the camera mount so that it doesn't slip. I found hanging the camera below the bars meant it was less likely to slip and also was less intrusive; most cameras allow you to flip the sensor for upside-down mounting.

No complaints, really. Except that £30 is a lot of money for a plastic loop, even if it has been lovingly printed in the UK. Although it's ten quid more than GoPro's own handlebar mount, it's a lot less bulky and fiddly to fit, so worth the extra.

Verdict

Well-made camera mount that will hold your GoPro with no problems.

Would be useful to have your opinion on if it is stronger than go pros own mount. Important as the go pro mount has broken on my road by just road vibration (my camera nearly run over by car behind!) - the plastic is too brittle. How does this one compare? There are positive reviews for the K edge metal mount, and even though a bit more expensive, the fact it is metal inspires confidence. Not sure about this one.

the nylon that this mount is made from is a lot less brittle than gopro's own mount, and also the mounting method means it's in contact all the way around the bars.
