At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

A fast-rolling tyre with good durability and impressive comfort the Vredestein Fortezza Tricomp 700x25c tyre is a good choice for the winter.

Vredestein's Fortezza Tricomp tyre uses a triple-compound tread construction, harder in the centre and softer at the sides. This makes them fast-rolling with little rolling resistance when upright, and when cornering they exhibit good grip. Traction in the dry or wet is equally impressive and there's barely any drop-off in performance the wetter it gets.

After several months of use, with many of those miles a mix of London's scarred and hazardous roads, they're showing little sign of degradation. There are a few cuts and holes but nothing that I would deem excessive. As for punctures, well I've yet to puncture once. Of course now, I've typed that it's likely I'll get a spate of them...

The tyre is light for a 25mm at 240g. Vredestein use a dual overlapping casing with a 120tpi construction, with an Sportex Protection Layer, a polyamide layer, embedded in the central overlapping of the casing. The construction of the tyre contributes to its supple feeling over choppy and rough road surfaces, where you seem to float over the top with a wonderfully smooth ride feel.

They're described as 'Competition tyres for all weather conditions' and that's a pretty accurate description I'd say. I'd just as happily use them for a sportive in the summer as I would train on them in the winter.

Verdict

Hard-wearing, grippy and comfortable, these are good tyres for year-round use.
