At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

This Juice Pack Powerstation Pro from Mophie is one of the highest capacity portable batteries on the market, perfect to charge your devices on the go.

It stores 6000 mAh, which is enough to charge most phones several times. My iPhone 4S has a battery capacity of 1420mAh, so it can charge it up to four times.

The Mophie Juice Pack Powerstation Pro is a big battery, about the size of two iPhones back to back, but it will still tuck neatly into a bag or even a jersey pocket.

I've charged my Garmin, my Kindle, iPods, iPhones and even my Niterider and Blackburn USB rechargeable lights with it.

Charging is simple - you plug a USB cable into the socket and connect your device, then press a button on the side of the battery. This shows the charge on the green status lights and starts charging your device. You do need to have the right cable with you to charge things, but you'd need those anyway.

The Powerstation Pro will output up to 2Amps in current, so if your devices can cope with the higher rate then charging is faster. The Powerstation Pro will also charge an iPad, but as these have very large capacity batteries it will only half fill the 11560mAh battery of the iPad 3, which is still quite impressive.

Initially I thought I would use this on longer rides like the Dunwich Dynamo and some century rides. It worked really well on the DD, topping up my front light and a friend's phones while we stopped and ate at the halfway.

However it has become a regular companion. I often charge devices straight from the battery rather than using a wall socket. Charging the battery does take a long time; I usually left it overnight, but 3-4 hours would charge it.

It's well protected, surrounded in a rubber bumper. A 2mm allen key keeps the casing bolts tight. It has two flaps for USB ports, which press into place and account for the IP65 rating the Powerstation Pro has for water and dust ingress. Mophie say you can splash water on it, but not dunk it in water. So it should be good for touring, camping, or even mountain biking with. It'll not mind a bit of mud and dirt.

I really liked this product for its huge capacity - and it is fairly light too. It's easy to use and reliable for anyone on the go.

Verdict

Easy to use, reliable portable battery with a huge capacity.
