At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

Tenn are an outdoor clothing retailer who sell mainly through non-specialist outlets like Amazon and Halfords. I've been less than kind about their mitts, which I'll be reviewing soon, but this jersey is much better.

The first thing you need to do is ignore the RRP. Tenn will sell it to you for £38, but Amazon list it at £16. That's a proper bargain.

It's not a flashy top - ours came in plain blue and black. It doesn't scream WANNABE PRO! at the top of its voice, which is nice.

Cut is relaxed, except for the elasticated waist, which also has a superfluous silicone gripper strip.

The material is basic polyester, but it wicks perfectly well and feels pleasant. Tenn say it has odour control properties and I can safely say that I've not noticed any nasty niffs.

Pockets are the usual three, complemented by a small zipped pocket on the left hip. Tenn say it's a phone pocket but those of you with an iPhone might find it a bit small. It was a snug fit for my DAB radio.

I'd prefer a full length zip (so much easier for bog breaks) but the short neck zip is adequate for venting. The sewn-in reflective strip on the back, just below the pocket line, is a useful bonus, as is the promise of 'added UV protection' - although Tenn don't quantify this.

There's nothing spectacular about this jersey but it's pretty good and for £16 it's a complete bargain, which is nice to see on a jersey being punted through non-specialist outlets.

Verdict

Superb value for a fully featured technical jersey.

Comfort fit and the arms aren't too tight. The clingy waist gripper is a bit OTT though.

Bargainous price!

The waist is a bit tight and the silicone gripper makes it harder to take off that I'd like, but these are minor gripes.

What's the material like? When I've looked at these before it's a standard polyester or it's a much looser knit than higher value kit - you can often see the square pattern in the material. Would be surprised if it's this good as it's an entry level Jersey!

I have a few Tenn Sport items and they have been amazing value and quality. I have been unable to fault them in any way.

I had to put on my biggest Doc Martens for the mitt review - they're awful. Jersey is good though and I've got a gilet to review - also pretty good although slightly flawed. Definitely a good choice if you just want basic kit without frills and marketing fluff.
