At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

Designed with recreational, urban and novice cyclists in mind, the Bow Peep glove from Ana Nichoola is both pretty and functional- a rare combination.

Made from synthetic leather, it's designed to offer comfort and cycling style for shorter rides, with a padded palm featuring cross-hatching of grippier material, pull loops to make the gloves easier to remove, and a crochet back and thumb for style and ventilation. The Velcro fastening at the wrist is topped off with a girly contrast colour bow.

It's a good looking glove, curiously but not unsuccessfully reminiscent of a feminine version of a 1980's weight lifting glove with a dash of driving glove chic. Available in grey and white (with pink bow) or plain white (with blue bow) it's not a look that will appeal to everyone, but it is unique in the normally functional world of the cycling mitt. In wear, it's extremely comfortable, with good levels of padding and a supremely ventilated back due to the crochet design. The seams at the inside of the thumbs, where the crochet back joins the palms, are a little on the intrusive side but for most styles of riding and for the lengths of ride the glove is designed for, this is not going to prove too much of a problem. I'd probably not wear them on a dropped handlebar bike though, favouring the company's higher performance Kestrel glove for this purpose instead. The pull loops do slightly ruin the aesthetic of the glove, but they don't functionally get in the way and are very handy for prolonging the life of the gloves by making them easier to remove.

Sizing is slightly on the generous side, with a size small fitting my hand perfectly when i'd normally take a size medium in most gloves.

Machine washable on a gentle cycle (appropriately enough) these are a practical and fashionable way of keeping hands a little more comfortable on recreational rides. Not a bad price either considering they're well made and a little bit different.

Verdict

Pretty and practical glove option for shorter rides.
