Las Anubis helmet
LAS make my current favourite helmet, the £120 Victory, and this Anubi is one rung below at £100 (although you can find it for less) which still makes it a fairly high end lid in most people's books. The Anubi is well made and has some nice features; I didn't get on with it quite as well as the more expensive Victory but it's a good piece of kit nonetheless.
You get everything you'd expect here: in-moulded shell, ratchet adjustment with a good range of height adjustability too, decent straps and an optional visor. LAS also provide two padding options with most of their helmets including this one; you get minimal summer pads, and a liner (with insect mesh sections) for cooler weather. Both are comfy and fairly quick drying, the summer pads much more so.
The Anubi uses a polycarbonate spine section along the top of the helmet that's also moulded into the foam. This allows for a huge air channel along the top of the lid that's great for getting a bit of breeze on your bonce when you're cracking along in the sun. There's 25 vents in all in the fairly big shell; our large size test lid weighed a reasonable 308g.
On the bike the helmet is well behaved, secure and comfortable. Maybe I'm a bit spoiled by the fact that the Victory is the most comfortable helmet I've had in a long time but the Anubi wasn't quite as good; I tended to notice it more on long rides, a combination of the extra weight and slightly different fit.
That's not to say it's a bad helmet, because it's not: the big vent really does the job when it comes to airflow and the fitting system allows for lots of adjustment. The liner is comfy (the summer pads a touch less so) and the straps are good too. Helmets are always a personal choice and you should try before you buy; this one might fit you to a tee. If it does, there's not much wrong with it in terms of on-bike performance And should you ever need to call on its bonce-protecting properties It's EN1078 and CPSC certified.
