At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

Not just for posh shades and prescription lenses, Muc-off Optix pack restores optical clarity and hygiene to camera lenses, LCD displays, viewfinders, visors, goggles, mirrors and even helmets requiring the gentle touch. Complete with soft-shell EVA pouch that slips unobtrusively into jersey pockets it makes a perfect touring/trail companion and is surprisingly economical to boot. However, fluorescent and matt finishes can stain so try an inconspicuous area first.

The kit comprises of 35ml pump-spray containing ph neutral, anti bacterial solution while a generously proportioned premium grade micro-fibre cloth buffs surfaces to a streak free shine. According to the blurb it's mixed with deionised water (as recommended by many helmet manufacturers), which basically means it has undergone a relatively simple purification process to remove all the mineral/bacterial elements so safe on polycarbonate and similar surfaces. Users of prescription lenses, cyclo-cross and mountain bike aficionados will rejoice in the economies of scale offered by a 250ml aftermarket bottle-simply siphon into the 33ml receptacle as and when required.

Usage is pretty intuitive-even for a devotee of the old school 'corner of the jersey' lens cleaning. Simply squirt the solution into the cloth and buff the desired area to a streak free shine in seconds. A single, quick squirt seems sufficient for glasses, cameras and smaller surfaces but rule of thumb suggests two or three for visors and I'd be inclined to give mud splattered lids a quick luke warm-water rinse first since the cloth will collect traces of ingrained dirt, leaving swirls in the shell. Rough stuff tourists unable to leave without their creature comforts (GPS, camera etc) would be well advised to carry a clean rag in these contexts, saving the cloth for expensive gadgets instead. However, I'm pleased to report despite early season showers and spirited mud-spattered encounters, the carry case doesn't absorb moisture and grit to the same degree as traditional Codura types and the cloth comes up a treat on a low temperature machine washes.

Verdict

Convenient, economical and extremely versatile care kit.

250ml aftermarket bottle might be a shrewd buy for regular users.

Tell us how the product performed overall when used for its designed purpose

The optix pack is really economical to use and perfectly designed for all kinds of delicate surfaces from camera LCDs, goggles, glasses, mirrors and even helmets. One squirt is sufficient for most and the microfibre cloth is a delight to use too. That said, when it comes to helmets and some matt finishes-test on an inconpicious area first as the solution can stain some types.
