At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

The LAS Victory exudes the kind of secure fit and attention to detail that you'd expect from a top-level lid. It's pretty light too, and the swappable liners are a nice touch. It's well vented, well made and comfortable, with a good range of adjustment.

As you'd expect from a £100+ helmet you get an in-moulded construction (the outer shell is moulded into the EPS foam) and the shell extends right to the bottom of the lid to stop it scuffing the protective foam when you set it down. Fitting is via an adjustable dial at the back and a push/pull height adjustment that extends a long way down, which makes the Victory feel very secure. The Victory is tested to the CE EN1078 standard.

You get two sets of pads: one full liner with mesh covers for the vents, and one set of lightweight pads. The mesh liner is ostensibly for winter as it cuts down airflow, but I've been using it in the April heatwave with few ill effects. Swap to the summer pads and ventilation is noticeably improved through the 25 air vents, although the front three are certainly big enough to swallow a bee or wasp; I've stuck with the mesh.

The straps are woven Nylon but of a high quality, and you get a fleecy chinguard that you can wrap any excess up in. There's a removable peak too, if you like peaks. Certainly it goes with the spiky overall look of the Victory. At 250g this is no heavyweight lid but it certainly doesn't feel flimsy, and the fit system is very secure. As ever, try it on your own head first as fit's a very personal thing.

All in all you're getting what you pay for here: a high quality helmet at a fairly lofty price. Shop around online and you can pick one up for under £100, at that kind of money it's definitely one for the list.

Verdict

High quality helmet with excellent fit and winter and summer pads.
