At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

Listen, we've all got enough old sponges and bottles of washing up liquid knocking about to make a decent fist of cleaning our bikes. Sometimes it's nice just to know you've got everything in one place, and that's where the Pit Kit comes in. Brushes, sponge, degreaser, bucket and finishing spray, all in a handy kit. An expensive kit, for what it is, but handy nonetheless.

Brush-wise you get a big soft one for general scrubbing (with no danger of paint damage), a little scrubby one, the claw-ended, multi-headed one that you clean the clag out of your cassette with (amongst other uses) and the best one of all: the two prong brush that makes mincemeat of hubs, stays, fork blades and other problem sections.

Muc Off's bike cleaner now features Nano Technology. What's that? "In the past, bike cleaners have been formulated using micro scale materials which are approximately 1/80th the size of a human hair.", they expound. "Muc-Off Nano-Tech cleaner is formulated using 'Nano Scale' materials which are approximately 1/80000th of the diameter of a human hair. This dramatic reduction in material scale allows the Muc-Off formula to penetrate far deeper into dirt, oil and grime and gently break it down on an atomic and molecular level". How much of the cleaner's prowess is down to Nano Technology is debatable, but for an earth-friendly biodegradable product it's one of the better ones. It lacks the all-out grease-munching power of inhale-and-die degreasers but as a general cleaner it's excellent.

The Bike Spray is a silicone formulation that will buff your steed up nice and also offer some protection against sticky dirt; it's noticeable that your bike gets mucky less quickly after a generous dollop. It slows down a lot less quickly too if you get it on your rims, so don't.

The sponge is a sponge. Allegedly it's a microcell sponge, but it just looks like a sponge to us. We're not sponge sophisticates. All this kit comes in a useful tub that'll hold enough water to get one bike nice and shiny. It's a pity it's not a bit bigger; by the time you've screwed the trigger head on the Bike Cleaner it's too big to fit inside.

All in all it's a decent kit. There's no getting away from the fact that 30 quid is a lot to pay but like I said, it is handy to have all your cleaning gubbins in one place and the brushes are a lot better than that old doorstep scrubber you nicked from your mum's. If you've got the money to spend, you won't be disappointed.

Muc-Off Biodegradable Bike Cleaner:

The revolution in Bike Cleaning!

Our unique Muc-Off Nano Tech cleaning formula makes life easy, regardless of the weather conditions or time of year. Muc-Off Nano Tech Cleaner has an incredibly effective cleaning formula containing 'Nano Technology' that also cares for your bike's delicate finishes. It contains no harmful acids, CFC's or solvents, is NONTOXIC and fully biodegradable.

It's completely safe on anodising, paintwork, chrome, carbon fibre, suspension seals, rubber, disc brake pads and more importantly to the user too! It cuts through dirt, oil and grime quickly and safely leaving your bike sparkling clean. Make life easy, try Muc-Off Nano Tech Cleaner after your next dirty ride!

So why is Muc-Off with Nano better?

In the past, bike cleaners have been formulated using 'Micro Scale' materials which are approximately 1/80th the size of a human hair. Muc-Off Nano-Tech cleaner is formulated using 'Nano Scale' materials which are approximately 1/80000th of the diameter of a human hair. This dramatic reduction in material scale allows the Muc-Off formula to penetrate far deeper into dirt, oil and grime and gently break it down on an atomic and molecular level. The dirt is then rinsed away easily and safely with water, leaving behind corrosion inhibitors for future protection. A painted or metal surface may look smooth to the naked eye but under a microscope it's full of peaks and troughs. Nano sized particles are able to fill these microscopic areas and bond to form a smooth protective layer that makes it harder for dirt to adhere to the surface next time you ride.

Muc-Off Bike Spray:

Protect, preserve and freshen your bike with Muc-Off Bike Spray's incredible water dispersing action. Muc-Off Bike Spray has a high oil content so is a prefect 'all over' after-wash corrosion inhibitor. It drives out moisture and leaves a sparkling non-sticky protective layer on frame, drive chain, metal parts, plastics, rubber and paintwork.

Why does Muc-Off Bike Spray rock?

Because it contains P.T.F.E! This wonder ingredient bonds on a molecular level to form a protective lubricating film on all parts. In fact the molecules found in P.T.F.E are amongst the largest known to man, which is why the surface is so slippery. FACT: P.T.F.E is so slippery, virtually nothing can stick to it or be absorbed by it. It is the only substance in the world that a Gecko can't stick to!!

It also has superb penetrative qualities that help drive deep into tight areas which can hold moisture as well as free up seized parts. This all combines to prevent dirt adhesion between washes and reduce future maintenance time as well as helping reduce friction and wear.
